editI heard somewhere that Mark Todd went half way round the badminton cross country with only one stirrup, and won. yes he did and i cant realy remember the horses name but im pretty sure it was southern comfort all i can remember is that he didnt own the horse.
He rode 2/3 of the course with one stirrup, while on Bertie Blunt.
Bertie Blunt was a catch ride & he'd not ridden it before badminton week
So what was the scandal? The link just goes to the front page of the Sunday Mirror, so is quite pointless.Snorgle (talk) 10:37, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, I googled and found this link: http://quicktime.cnnsi.com/olympics/newswire/2000/09/01/6245020330_afp/ which at least gives some information, so I'll link that as there is not a lot more about it around.Snorgle (talk) 10:40, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
- I've put back the section which used to cover this, and added a couple of refernce links. Snori (talk) 10:55, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

No Silver medal in 1992
editJust to clarify: Mark Todd was not awarded a medal as part of the NZ team in 1992 as he did not complete the event. This has been stated repeatedly in multiple media sources. Here is one reference which lists the 1992 medallists and does not include Todd :http://www.databaseolympics.com/games/gamessport.htm?g=23&sp=EQU. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 06:32, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- This is a bit confusing as reliable sites, http://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/to/mark-todd-1.html and
his profile at the official Olympic page state he has won a silver medal: http://www.olympic.org/mark-todd Rudolph89 (talk) 06:42, 10 July 2012 (UTC)- I've sent an email to the NZOC to try and clarify this. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 20:40, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
- A very quick response!! Their reply:
"In 1992, all members of the team who completed the event and finished 1st, 2nd or 3rd were awarded medals. Those who did not complete all phases of the event in those teams did not receive a medal. The rules changed for the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta where all members of the team including those who did not complete all phases of the event were awarded medals as members of the team. This is how discrepancies arise and also highlights how even official records can be affected as the rules change from Games to Games. The IOC records are incorrect as the person dealing with this data has not taken these factors into consideration. Equestrian Sports New Zealand and I have spoken with Mark regarding this and his explanation is exactly the same."
- So Todd was not awarded a medal. I don't know how this can be included in the article as it probably consitutes WP:OR. I guess we just have to wait until all the sources are corrected. Cheers, DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 23:22, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
