How Mar-a-Lago was purchased

Trump initially offered the Post foundation $28 million for the home + furnishings, which was actually above the list price of $20 million. This wikipedia article states Trump initially offered only $15 million, which is incorrect. After the Post foundation rejected his offer of $28 million, that's when he allegedly bought the beach property and threatened to put up a house in front of Mar-a-lago. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/inside-trumps-palm-beach-castle-and-his-30-year-fight-to-win-over-the-locals/2015/11/14/26c49a58-88b7-11e5-be8b-1ae2e4f50f76_story.html

However, the vanity fair article also notes that Trump did not actually buy the beachfront property until AFTER he had closed on Mar-a-lago. So there are conflicting reports of what actually happened here.
