Ardenne's work on radar?
editThe author claims:
During World War II Ardenne received research funds for the development of radar, but was not able to develop a mass-produceable version.
It still seems to be unknown to lots of Britons and Americans that the Germans had operational radar during WW II and made extensive use of it. But German radar technology was left behind by more recent and more efficient technologies like radar that operates on much shorter wave lengths. Short wave length radar with magnetrons had been developed too late in Germany. One reason for that mistake in the pre-war period was the presumption that the Luftwaffe's existing radar technology would be sufficient enough in the near future and the developement of much more expensive short wave technology would therefore be not necessary.
But let's return to Ardenne: I have never heard that he too was working on radar. Maybe on components for radar? Please specify this claim with some hints or links. Until then, I'll take out this chapter from the article.
centrifuges
editA book about V2 rockets and some German nuclear research suggested that by using his centrifuge to seperate Uranium isotopes, Von Ardenne and Germany became the first nuclear power. This meant that the Germans beat the Americans to seperating Uranium by about two months.
A later reprinting of the same book included a denial from Von Ardenne to the affect that the centrifuge had been unused for the duration of WW2. The Americans still remain the first nuclear power
Another TV account suggested that Von Ardenne proved of little real use to the Russians as being a "dabbler" in many fields rather than the "in depth" physicists that the Russians really required.AT Kunene (talk) 09:41, 4 January 2011 (UTC)
