this article is just bad

edit

malwarebyes anti malware is itself malware and demands pay for removal of lots of files that are either not there or not infected. 84.213.48.233 (talk) 22:39, 18 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

The free version removes everything it finds for you, it not asking for money before doing that. The pay version just gives you real time protection, no other difference listed on their website. Dream Focus 22:53, 18 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

"Filesgang.com" reference removed from "Reception" section

edit

Clicking on the associated link for the now-removed Filesgang reference resulted in redirection to a spam site at a different URL - a common spammer ploy, featuring a pop-up that informed me my computer was infected and to call an '877' number immediately for assistance, while blocking access to any other tabs or active parts of the browser (I had to crash-close the browser via Windows Task Manager).

Contrary to what I entered as a short explanation in 'Revision History', I cannot state with certainty that the Filesgang website was infected with hijacking software by a second party. Upon further reflection, it is possible that Filesgang itself is the originator of this malware (perhaps due to, say, new site ownership?). Based on some internet searches, my originally suspected culprit - parkingcrew.net* (discovered via NoScript) - remains the leading suspect, but it is possible that Filesgang itself has been abandoned by its original (and presumably well intentioned) owners. The almost two-year dormancy of Filesgang's Twitter account might offer some circumstantial evidence in this regard.

*Other manifestations of parkingcrew in addition to the one at the .net domain, including the .com site, should also be regarded with caution until further investigation determines them to be safe.Sharl928 (talk) 00:19, 24 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Free Version

edit

They seem to have dropped the free run-on-demand version, but I cant find a source that says so. Anyone object if I remove the lines? BTW it says so in the company Malwarebytes article. Rojomoke (talk) 10:12, 17 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Considering that the free version does still exist and I cannot find anything to support your statement in the Malwarebytes company article, yes, I do object to said removal. 1980fast (talk) 07:53, 15 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Redux

edit

It seems the "free" version is now only available, at least for Android, if you buy a subscription, then cancel. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 19:34, 15 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

It is the same thing for Macs. Apple asked me to get a free copy and run it to try to diagnose a problem. I did so, but they asked for a credit card "in case you decide to keep it. I have tried to contact them to not continue after the trial period. However, I can't find any way to do so. 71.71.5.21 (talk) 19:06, 11 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

"Dealing with Vonteera" section should be removed entirely

edit

This section should be removed on the grounds that this article is not the place to discuss removal of specific threats. In addition to being off-topic, the resulting article would be impossibly long if such sections were allowed.

If there are no objections within a reasonable amount of time, I will be glad to remove it. 1980fast (talk) 07:59, 15 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Since no further comment was received, this has been done. 1980fast (talk) 22:50, 27 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
