edit

1. I put the reference to the paper by Ian Bradley up front because it is recent (published January 2011) and in peer reviewed major journal.

2. Changed mention of water cure patients and references to writings about hydrotherapy because:

2.1 material on Dickens (DNB and elsewhere) state his WIFE was a patient who he installed and visited, but does NOT state he was a patient,
2.2 material I have found on Darwin's praise of Gully is in private letters: Letters 1235, 1240, 1352, Darwin, C.R to Fox, W.D. 24 March 1849, 18 April 1849, 4 Sep 1850, see Charles Darwin's illness [1] and actual letters in Darwin letters project[2] to be published with Cambridge University Press in The Correspondence of Charles Darwin.
2.3 book by "Oddfish" lampoons the water cure in pseudo-medical jargon, doggerel and cartoons. Michael P. Barnett

3. I took out the provenance "in a book by Dr John Wall and again in Nash 1778 History of Worcestershire, is affirmed to be composed by the parish clerk about the year 1590 and is one of the earliest records of the 'medicinal virtue and purity of these waters'.<ref name=Chambersp14-18/> as excessively detailed in view of what Chambers actually says about it but do not mind if someone thinks it should be merged back in.

4. I muddled a couple of references to actual pages in Chambers' book and will try to straighten them out tomorrow.

5. Will smooth out bumps in continuity tomorrow caused by chronological rearrangement (talk) 00:39, 26 April 2011 (UTC)Reply
