"he was tried and sentenced to jail in 1927; he was released in 1936, after serving eleven years" A remarkable achievement: serving 11 years in a 9-10 year time span.

He was jailed in 1925, so yes, around 11 years served. In Italy for serious offences there was, and still there is, detention pending trial.
