"only significant example of a typical western African lagoon system that is protected within a national park." The word significant means that there are other examples but this one is being made to look more important. Sounds like opinion. If it has been called the only significant example, then that could be noted and cited but otherwise I would rephrase... "a western African lagoon system located within a national park."
