Have I added this page to the right list categories?

edit

Hi Cattus! Based on your edit, I have added some further list categories to this page but I am not sure if I did it correctly? I got a bit confused with all those list categories by country and by topic... EvM-Susana (talk) 08:46, 8 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Category:Categories by country is just for categories, not articles/lists. Category:Lists by topic and country only had subcategories, but this list doesn't seem to fit in any of those, so I think it's fine there.--Cattus talk 03:21, 9 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion?

edit

User:Rehman proposed to delete this page. (is this the right place to discuss this or is there already another place somewhere?). I had created this page because I found it useful to refer to it under "See also". Normal users don't scroll below the external links so I think they would easily overlook the link to a category page. The See Also section does not get overlooked. Take a look at the other pages that link to here. Isn't it useful to have it? EMsmile (talk) 13:31, 24 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi EMsmile. Thanks for starting this thread, yes this is the right place. If I understand correctly, the purpose is now better served with {{Water supply and sanitation by country}}. Here is an example where the template is in use. It is more compact and accessible, while also increasing the total number of interlinks (i.e. linking from Germany to UK in one click). Kind regards, Rehman 13:37, 24 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
I am not sure. Before I became an experienced Wikipedian, I never used to take any notice of the stuff that comes below the section with external links. So I would have overlooked that template, especially when it's collapsed (as they often are). But I would not overlook a link in the See also section though. That's where the link to this list article would be (on some select pages, not that many; you can check with "what links to here") By the way, why are there so many red links in that template? They should be removed. EMsmile (talk) 13:50, 24 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
I don't mean to sound rude, but that is of personal preference (i.e. not reading things below a section). A navbox is what is usually used for cases like this. As for the red links, it helps motivate editors to create the page. If you are still in disagreement, I can convert this deletion process to an AFD so you have a chance of publicly voicing your opinion, while more editors can share their views as well. But I am quite certain it would still get deleted. Cheers, Rehman 14:15, 24 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
I don't think it's personal preference. I wonder if someone has ever done a user experience study on this but I am pretty sure I am not the only one who used to "overlook" the somewhat cryptic template sections at the very bottom of a Wikipedia article (but I have no data to prove this). Regarding the red links of the template I have now added a comment on the talk page of that template. - Yes, please convert this deletion process to an AFD (if it's not too much hassle). If the majority of people wants to get rid of that list page, then so be it. Perhaps User:Mschiffler has any comments as he had started most of those articles that are in the list article which I had created. EMsmile (talk) 04:09, 25 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
No hassle, EMsmile. I will convert the process to an AFD as requested. Kind regards, Rehman 04:12, 25 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
Done, EMsmile. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of water supply and sanitation by country. You may share your opinion there. Kind regards, Rehman 05:26, 25 February 2019 (UTC)Reply
