My reading of Fox is that the barrel was placed over Badby's head, which implies that the the flames could enter from below. This seems to be confirmed by the illustration which show flames coming out of the barrel. Thus he was burned to death, rather than boiled. --Langcliffe (talk) 16:28, October 31, 2008 (UTC)
This is a fairly useless article. The most annoying aspect is the title, which assumes that readers know where "Smithfield" is. Boneyard90 (talk) 11:34, June 15, 2011 (UTC)
