editI believe there is either an error, or someone was making some sort of wise-crack commentary on Martin Brodeur's age.
He is 40... not 100.
Born (1972-05-06) May 6, 1972 (age 40) Montreal, QC, CAN
Should it include Preseason?
editI noticed Johan Hedberg is not in the list because he did not play a regular season game over 40. But! He played a exhibition game in September 2013 for the New York Rangers at the age of 40. Other players who played exhibition games at 41 were Theron Fleruy and Frank Maholvich. Bobby Hull played a few preseason games with the Rangers in 1981 at 42 years old.
I know preseason does not count but they should still be acknowledge for playing over 40.
Oldest hockey players in other leagues
editMaybe an article should be added for oldest players in the AHL (American Hockey League), WHA (World Hockey Association) and/or oldest players in hockey such as European and minor leagues because there have been ex-NHLers that played over 40 in these leagues and not NHL.
What do you think of this idea?
- If you can get some reliable sources to back such an article up, it may have some merit. But it may just be viable for something like the WHA and top Euro leagues, as the minor leagues probably won't be notable enough. Kaiser matias (talk) 08:21, 18 September 2017 (UTC)
David Ayres
editDavid Ayres palyed at 42 years old with Carolina Hurricanes in a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs. He does not have a profile. He should stay
Joe Thornton
editJoe Thornton has not played an NHL game since May 23rd 2022, his lone playoffs appearance that year with the Panthers. He was still 42 years old at the time, but because he is still counted as a "present" player, he keeps going up the rankings without playing, making it look like he is still playing in the NHL at 44. I understand that this is not about "oldest NHL players at time of retirement" but rather oldest players to appear in a game. Florence and the Codeine (talk) 20:52, 8 October 2023 (UTC)
- Once he retires, it'll revert to his age from his last game. This has been the practice for players in similar positions, who are effectively retired but haven't confirmed yet. Kaiser matias (talk) 16:26, 9 October 2023 (UTC)
