Talk:List of mathcore bands

Between The Buried And Me, August Burns Red

edit

Both are technical metal bands that borrow influences from hardcore (August Burns Red leaning towards metalcore, BTBAM towards deathcore). I have no clue why these bands were removed as they obviously incorporate mathcore influences. Please, can someone verify this - it's getting ridiculous. Removed the Irish Front

edit

The Irish Front is not mathcore or math- anything due to the fact that very little thought or effort (or difficulty for that matter) is put into writing or performing any of their music. This is not personal opinion, but rather, the fruits of a brief conversation with band members. I was told the band was actually started as a joke.

Added August Burns Red

edit

They are classified as technical metalcore in their wikipedia article, as well as at http://music.mediaswim.com/rock-pop/august-burns-red

Removed Meshuggah

edit

Removed Meshugah, they are just technical metal or Mathmetal... they do not have their roots in hardcore, and their sound isn't realted to hardcore eithier, so they are not a mathcore band.

I don't like this list. I wouldn't consider half of the bands on that list to be real "mathcore". It takes frequent complex time sigs and time sig changes to really be mathcore. Using 4/4, 6/8, AND 3/4, sometimes in the same song (ZOMG) doesn't really make mathcore to me. Also, why isn't there a "list of mathmetal bands" or even a math metal page while a "mathcore" page exists?

This page should be changed to include all math metal/mathcore bands, so it is not just restricted to bands influenced by hardcore, even though already most bands on this list are influenced by metalcore bands. So to stop any more confusion, this article should be open to all mathcore, mathmetal, mathgrind, noisemath,or any other genre that uses mathimatic time singnatures.

MATHCORE AND MATHMETAL ARE TOO DIFFERENT THINGS. Meshuggah are metal not hardcore...

Removed Norma Jean

edit

I Removed Norma Jean because the aren't so much mathcore as southern metal/chaotic

But from your statement, they are still conisdered mathcore. So I have added them back until someone has a actual reason why they are not mathcore.

AKnot 01:43, 31 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Norma Jean really are no more Mathcore than any other of these bands... So why bother deleting just them? Days will chase 01:26, 17 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Does Norma even change time stamps? Looking at tabs it doesn't look like it. -- 71.34.54.22 12:36, 1 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't understand why people remove Norma Jean anymore, it feels like nobody who are against it has even listened to O'God The Aftermath or even Bless The Martyr and Kiss The Child at the least. They are mathcore, they seem to fill up the criteria in the main page. AKnot 20:39, 11 June 2007 (UTC) My but aches alot. i think it may be due to all the men that come by and totaly pound it in there. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.91.37.33 (talk) 08:56, 3 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Removed Mudvayne

edit

Mudvayne isn't mathcore, it's nu-metal. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 213.207.120.210 (talk) 10:22, 7 February 2007 (UTC).Reply

Mudvayne is less nu-metal than it is mathcore. However, I wont re-add them to the list because they aren't -core, they are -metal. There is a difference between math-metal and mathcore. Aristeaus 08:10, 28 July 2007 (UTC)Reply
The fact remains that Mudvayne is nu metal. There is nothing math about them. Complex bass lines does not make a math band. Also, as you said they are not related to the "core" genres at all. Take the thought of them being on this list far, far away. -ARandomHeretic 16:13, 7 October 2007 (UT

I got some nu-metal for ya===== your but reeks

Citations or bust

edit

Almost none of the bands on this page are, or were, known as mathcore bands. Mudvayne? Converge? Meshuggah? Apparently, not only do half of these bands not fall under the mathcore category, half of them don't play with a hardcore sound.

From this point forward, every new item added to the list should have a citation to go with it. If not, it will be deleted. As for the current articles, citations should be sought after rigorously.

Suggestions?

Merge

edit

I just created a list of metalcore bands article, and this one is sort of redundant w/ that article. So I say we merge the two articles, taking the bands from this page and adding them to the list of metalcore bands page. Prepare to be Mezmerized! :D 02:47, 27 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

August Burns Red

edit

August Burns Red should be added to this list, especially if one observes their "Messengers" album in any detail. There is, at the very least, a mathcore influence on that album, if not all of their albums. They may be classified as a metalcore and/or mathcore band, and should thus be added to this list. JAmos.

Wikipedia doesn't rule with original research but with reliable sources. The fact that you want them added doesn't matter. FireCrystal (talk) 06:42, 27 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

If one looks on August Burns Red's Wikipedia page, under their genre, they are listed as a Mathcore band. If that isn't enough, then I went out and found some websites that cite them as matchore: http://www.nationmaster.com/encyclopedia/List-of-mathcore-bands http://www.last.fm/tag/christian+mathcore http://www.freebase.com/view/en/mathcore Let me know if I should look for any more. --JAmos (talk) 06:36, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

First and foremost, Wikipedia isn't itself reliable because it is user edited and the band's page just shows metalcore as their genre. Nationmaster and Freebase are mirror sites of Wikipedia, while Last.fm is user edited as well as Freebase is. As I've said before, see WP:Reliable sources on what's reliable or not and also remember to sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~), see WP:SIGN. FireCrystal (talk) 07:01, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Uh...

edit

This is bullshit. How come there's a list of mathcore bands, but the List of Metalcore Bands was deleted (as you can see by the fact that the link is red)? Isn't Metalcore a lot more important than Mathcore?

Something needs to be done about this. --Lordnecronus (talk) 21:03, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Mathcore is important, metalcore is not. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.224.181.247 (talk) 01:27, 28 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Major problems with this article

edit

OK, so at the minute this article is completely unsourced. It needs to be in line with other band list articles, e.g. list of deathcore bands, list of death metal bands (minus the flagicons, obviously) etc. The problem is that I'm really struggling to find sources for many of these bands, and the article has become a magnet for genre warriors. I propose starting it from scratch in the very near future, leaving out anything that does't have a source for "band name X" and "mathcore" in a reliable source. In the immediate term that will mean Allmusic, MusicMight articles edited by Garry Sharpe-Youg (username:Taniwha) and Google Books sources. All webzines must be ignored obviously. Benea Reach ?

edit

Really ? Ive listened to few their tracks on YT, and they sound pretty standard. Bit more technical but definitely not "math". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.230.129.150 (talk) 08:45, 20 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
