Closed brothels on list
editVegaswikian -- if you want closed ones on this list (which I'm totally cool with... as long as it is consistent I'm game) we should probably figure out when the closed. In short an establishment which closed years ago may or may not be more relevent than a small unknown establishment that went out of business a few days ago. Lawrence007 16:08, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, the list probably needs to be expanded with that information. Given their uniqueness, many of these brothels are likely notable and will get articles over time, even the closed ones. Part of the problem is that no one has really had the time to locate the references for the materials so that it can be added. I suspect that the information is out there, but locating it and including the facts here will take some time. Vegaswikian 19:50, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
Washoe County
editThis list seems to be missing brothels in Washoe County. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.165.0.59 (talk) 06:42, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- Not missing anything. They are not legal there. So unless there is a notable one in that county with references, the list should be blank. Vegaswikian 07:01, 27 October 2007 (UTC)
- Isn't there the Mustang Ranch Brothel located in Sparks, NV inside Washoe County? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.157.44.98 (talk • contribs) 19:26, 15 November 2007
- No – the Mustang and Wild Horse Ranch brothels are listed as being in Storey County for a reason, because that's where they are in fact located. The nearest town of any size is Sparks, just over the county border. The locations are also often listed as Mustang or Patrick (though Patrick proper is also in Washoe County), but these "towns" are essentially roadside turnoffs, consisting of the brothels and a business or industrial park or two.
- Brothels have not operated legally in Washoe County since 1949, though Joe Conforte operated his first (illegal) brothel from 1955-1960, the Triangle River Ranch, in trailers right on the junction of Washoe, Storey, and Lyon Counties to take advantage of the legal confusion that would create.
- If this list were expanded to cover the pre-1950 era, many brothels could be listed from every county in Nevada, especially if one were to go back as far as the 19th Century when brothels were a common feature of Western frontier towns. However, the list as it stands covers modern-era brothels, mostly post-1971, the existence of which can be easily referenced. Iamcuriousblue (talk) 15:17, 9 June 2009 (UTC)

How to make this encyclopedic?
editWe have a WP:NOTDIRECTORY here. While there may be other ways to fix this, the standard ways are to delete the article, reduce the list to entries that have their own article, or reduce the list to entries with independent, reliable sources. --Ronz (talk) 16:19, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
- The phenomenon of brothels in Nevada is hugely notable, there is vast coverage of the overall topic. This article states there are just 22 current legal brothels in Nevada. IMHO, it is best to just list all of these as long as there is verification of existence, it is just simpler to cover all of such a finite set, although many can be "blacklinks" not calling for creation of separate articles like redlinks would do. About closed brothels, there could be room for more discussion, but I think the article does okay in suggesting this covers all brothels created since whenever they became legal, which again is pretty finite. --Doncram (talk) 20:05, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

This entire section needs updating.
editMuch of this has been overtaken by events. For example, Dennis Hoff, mentioned in several portions, died two years ago and before he died the Nye County commissioners revoked his brothel license for his establishment in Pahrump. I suggest a total update and rewrite. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ProfessorAmargosa (talk • contribs) 19:30, 12 March 2020 (UTC)
