Should this page be redirected to It (2017 film)#Box office? TompaDompa (talk) 09:35, 21 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • Support redirecting The way I see it, this is not particularly different from List of box office records set by Deadpool, which looked like this before it was turned into a redirect to Deadpool (film)#Box office following this RfC (which itself followed this FLC and this talk page discussion). The issue back then was that the list was mostly comprised of non-notable WP:TRIVIA or "pseudo-records", i.e. entries with several qualifiers that narrow the field down considerably to make a small enough niche for a "record" (examples of this in this list include "Biggest opening weekend for a 2017 Warner Bros. film in South Africa", "Largest Thursday Pre-Show for a Stephen King adaptation [in the United States and Canada]", "Highest-grossing Stephen King horror film worldwide adjusted for inflation", and "Biggest all-time opening weekend for a horror film in Brazil"), and that what would remain after removing the cruft did not merit a separate article. To my eye, the same problem exists here – if we were to remove the stuff that doesn't belong, we would be left with too little to have any reason for a separate list. A WP:BLAR seems like the best solution to me. TompaDompa (talk) 09:36, 21 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
So I did some cleanup. This is what the list looked like before. This is what it looks like after cleanup. This is what the list would look like if the most egregiously excessive and questionable entries were removed. I believe this clearly demonstrates that there is no need for this list to be separate from the main It (2017 film) article. TompaDompa (talk) 12:29, 22 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

Seeing as this proposal has been open for a month with nobody opposing, I went ahead and made the change. TompaDompa (talk) 18:50, 21 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Why was the article disbanded? Given the amount of records It - at the time, and presently - had broken? --Bartallen2 (talk) 05:56, 6 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

It really hasn't broken that many records. It mostly broke "pseudo-records", entries that have so many qualifiers that narrow down the field of potential competitors that they aren't notable. The few genuine records it actually broke do not need a separate list, but can be included over at the main article for the film. See above. TompaDompa (talk) 10:19, 6 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Yet the articles for Black Panther and Avatar remain; but even without the "pesudo-records" it should take precedence over those two entries, for example.--Bartallen2 (talk) 18:20, 7 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hey, I'm all for turning List of Black Panther box office achievements into a redirect as well (not so sure about List of box office records set by Avatar). But that's WP:OSE. I'm not sure why you think this should take precedence. TompaDompa (talk) 21:57, 7 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

I'm moving this here for as it's WP:OFFTOPIC – these aren't box office records. There may be a place for this information somewhere on Wikipedia, but this article isn't it. TompaDompa (talk) 23:55, 21 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • It passed the $500 million mark becoming the 176th film to do so, while becoming second-biggest movie ever starring a clown behind The Dark Knight (2008).[1][2]
  • It was the third-highest opening of 2017 in North America (behind Beauty and the Beast and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2), while joining The Passion of the Christ (2004) as the only film under $40 million to enter the biggest openers list.[3]
  • It was Warner Bros. third-highest opening of all time in Mexico.[4]
  • Unadjusted for inflation, It's opening weekend makes it the second-highest total earning King adaptation ever, behind The Green Mile.[5]
  • The first fall release to gross over $300 million domestically.[6]
  • Second biggest opening weekend for an R-rated film in the US and Canada, with It's debut weekend only trailing Deadpool's record $132.4 million opening last year.[5]
