Variation between translations-- Spelling preferences ?

There are many different English translations of War and Peace. The spellings of these characters is different from translation to translation. This list doesn't specify which translation was used to create it. -- Any suggestions on how to address variations in spelling? Does anyone have a preferred translation, and if so, why? This continues to be an issue, 3 years after Plamoa's comment. I am reading Garnett's translation and finding the characters in this article has proven a bit difficult. I will add the name variations to help solve this issue. Don't expect quick udpdates, though --I just started reading the book and I will edit the article as I move through it. Titles and names

Sometimes titles are included as part of the name of the character, for instance, "Count Aleksey Arakcheyev", "Prince Andrey", etc. The rest of the article includes titles as part of the description that follows the character name. I don't know which alternative is correct.

Any ideas on how to solve this? Is this even an issue to be solved? Negrulio (talk) 03:22, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

In order of appearance

Please see the new format page I am offering as a possible replacement. My rationale: In the print world, a straight alphabetical listing made sense but in a computer environment we have search functions, so another format could be more useful. By using a chronological scheme, we can to a small extent outline the plot of the book. Also, I have added the birth and death dates of historical personages to distinguish them from the fictional characters.

If you see any utility in this format and have finished the book, by all means do likewise for the rest of the characters -- I'm only 1/4 of the way through. hungrydog55 (talk) 15:08, 15 January 2018 (UTC)

Highlighting historical figures

I have added the dates of historical figures so they will stand our from the fictitious ones. Also, if a fictional character has a title, I left it outside the link; only historical characters have their title in blue. Hungrydog55 (talk) 20:48, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

On the title of "prince"

Here, even more so than in Anna Karenina, I am somewhat puzzled by so many princes and princesses who are obviously not the tsar's children. Hence, I somehow drifted to Knyaz#Russia, which seems to be the key of this mystery. Also found this and that, but I barely decipher cyrillic so I cannot go further. I would possibly be enlightening if this very Russian notion could find its way to the present list. --Noliscient (talk) 18:55, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
