Is this page even necessary? I'm not too sure if barebones lists like this are really wikipedia material... --Evildevil (talk) 05:52, 31 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Evildevil may be right, since The Tonight Show is bound to broadcast new episodes for the majority of weeknights any given year. The list will be enormous. In any case, I very much doubt Kevin Nealon is a musical guest.Bjones (talk) 12:54, 2 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
There are such lists of The Daily Show and The Colbert Report at least. When the list grows too long, we can split it by year like they did. -amisnaru (talk) 16:06, 3 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Deletion thing didn't come out in my favour obviously, but the way the page is now seems to be good enough. I've been trying to keep the sketch lists up to date. I really hope someone else is going to try too. --Evildevil (talk) 06:51, 25 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

First female guest?

edit

Is that really something that would be noteworthy? Why not first male guest, first white guest, first black guest, etc. too, then? It's not like a female guest would only come on the show once in a blue moon. 4RM0 (talk) 18:13, 19 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

How much or how little to include

edit

Can we discuss whether to have the limited content in this version [1] or the fuller content in this version [2]? ChildofMidnight (talk) 22:31, 23 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I believe that the current version lists too much; that is why I keep reverting back. I apoligize for that, but at least here me out. It was only until recently I believe that we started listing songs, and sketches. In my opinion, we really don't need that - or at least the sketches; I'd be fine with keeping the songs as long as they're not placed right after the performers' name in italics. But, again, I think that this added material is really too much. Think about it. There was never a sketch list and list of songs before both pages (including List of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon episodes) were nominated for deletion and no one ever questioned the notability, at least from my perspective, or that it was less encyclopedic, as seems to be the main argument every time I revert. Listen, I worked long and hard for both episode lists to return, and I don't want to see the heat getting to the point where someone puts it up for deletion again. Other lists such as List of The Simpsons episodes list the original airdate, production code, and title of the episode. In my opinion, adding songs and sketches to these list is as if we added a plot for every episode to the List of The Simpsons episodes article - clearly not needed; it fills up too much space. I ask you, whose really going to care about what song the performer played on a spectific night or the sketches that came up that night? I certainly don't (I know I probably shouldn't use myself as an example - that's very poor), and I'm sure that I'm not the only one who thinks that. - Cartoon Boy (talk) 23:15, 23 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
But in the case of the Simpsons there are articles on each episode. In this case, the list is the combined episodes. So I think basic verifiable information is good to include. I don't think there's any chance of the list being deleted. The show is notable. It doesn't seem like excessive "plot summary" or list cruft to include some basic details about each show. I think it makes it more useful and complete. But I'm open on others thoughts and comments. ChildofMidnight (talk) 23:39, 23 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
Indeed one of the arguments put forward by the people who support deletion was that a simple list of guests might be copyright infringement. See also List of The Colbert Report episodes and List of Buffy the Vampire Slayer episodes --Know Your NME (talk) 00:09, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I see your point, ChildofMidnight, but, like I said, do we really need the song listed right after the performers' name in italics? In my opinion, that makes it look slightly odd. Perhaps if we added parenthases (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) in between the songs after the names? - Cartoon Boy (talk) 1:09, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
The formatting needs work. Why do we need a column for the season? Can't we just use a section title for that? And then the last column will be large so maybe we can merge the additional content there? Just a thought. It is a bit messy looking as is. ChildofMidnight (talk) 16:58, 24 June 2009 (UTC)Reply
I prefer the limited-content version but I suspect only because it is easier to read. Yes if we can clean up the formatting it might be ok. How about we remove the Season#/Series# columns and just have "No." column and I'd like to remove the song title entirely, and no need for the dark blue headings. -- Barrylb (talk) 05:47, 25 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Non NBC/Tonight Show sources

edit

This article is seriously lacking secondary sources outside of the show and network itself. I mentioned this on the AFD, but people just swept this issue under the rug. This page shouldn't be a mere facsimile of content from the official website. --Madchester (talk) 18:54, 4 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Primary sources are fine for things like plot descriptions or, here, to say who appeared on a particular episode. "Without a secondary source, a primary source may be used only to make descriptive claims, the accuracy of which is verifiable by a reasonable, educated person without specialist knowledge. For example, an article about a novel may cite passages from the novel to describe the plot, but any interpretation of those passages needs a secondary source." Wikipedia:No original research#Primary, secondary and tertiary sources. PaulGS (talk) 05:33, 30 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
  1. Per WP:RS, articles should be based primarily on third-party sources
  2. And not just a reliable source but reliable sources. The page in its current format is nothing more than a facsimile of the official website. As User:Baseball Bugs discussed at Talk:The_Tonight_Show_with_Conan_O'Brien#Episodes_list, what happens when the official site removes past guest information?
  3. WP:EPISODE also covers list of episodes, not just individual television episode articles. It emphasizes that the subject's real-world notability should be established according to the general notability guideline by including independent reliable secondary sources We need said non-NBC sources to assert the real-world notability of The Tonight Show episodes. WP:NRVE states that notability is not inherited. Just because there are secondary sources documenting The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien doesn't mean that its subordinate articles (i.e., said episode list) also inherit the parent article's notability.
Again, please take the time and effort to improve this article's sourcing issues by providing proper secondary sources to A)support the info on the official site and B)help assert the real-world notability of the show's episodes. --Madchester (talk) 16:15, 1 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Regarding "This page shouldn't be a mere facsimile of content from the official website". I disagree. These are just basic facts, not original research. I am going to remove Primary sources tag. Barrylb (talk) 13:41, 2 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

"Season" column

edit

I think the season column should be deleted. Every episode on this list will be part of the same season (possibly two seasons at most), in reality. As it stands now, the columns read the same as the episode number (Episode #30 should not be in season 30, I can tell you that much). I changed them all to season one a few weeks ago, but it seems to have been changed back at some point. I think that column should just be removed altogether. --Evildevil (talk) 03:18, 31 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I agree, I think the season/series column doesn't need to be there. And since the show airs a new episode almost every weekday of the year, when exactly would one define a season (as in where one ends and a new one takes its place)? 4RM0 (talk) 15:38, 1 August 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure how to actually remove the columns though. If I knew how, I wouldve done it by now. --Evildevil (talk) 17:42, 5 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Sketches

edit

We have a serious problem when it comes to the sketches section of the episodes list; the majority of sketches for August is missing. We really need to add those in, as well as be more consistant with adding in sketches in general for every episode. -- Cartoon Boy (talk) 10:46, 1 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

I did it for awhile, but then I got tired of doing it. Seems like the same can be said about anyone else who previously did those. --Evildevil (talk) 14:30, 2 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unaired Teri Hatcher episode

edit

Just realized I might be starting an unnecessary edit war by mistake. I just realized that the NBC site counts it in the numbering, even though it's unaired... Should we count it here? Or only use episode that were fully taped and made it to air? --Evildevil (talk) 01:30, 3 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

IMHO we should stay in sync with NBC's official episode numbering. Even though the episode was not completed, production was begun under a given number. Everything after #75 is now off by one when compared to NBC's list. Given the number of episodes they produce, there are bound to be a few more that are unaired for whatever reason. I think we can just put the episode number there (and bump all the following numbers) and keep the note indicating that it was unaired (and also add that it was not completed.) Friedo (talk) 10:16, 3 October 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm going to change the episode numbering to reflect NBC's numbering and tweak the wording a bit. Friedo (talk) 06:05, 4 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unreported un-aired "web only" clips of the tonight show from hulu

edit

A couple of loose ends - 1) Where is the Jeremy Renner episode? 2) There was a kid who appeared on Conan who talked about the video game "Jade Empire" ... anyone have any information on this? 67.186.34.157 (talk) 00:33, 26 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
