editWhen I was a youth I attended this academy for a bit over 4 years, somewhere in the span of about 2002 to the beginning of 2007. And in my time there the school was actually in two different locations, although I don't have the inclination or ability as I no longer reside in Illinois, to dig up the information on where exactly this was.
When I first came to the school, we were in a situation where we were located in a Chicago public park works building that doubled as both the park building and a school. This was possible to having one class of each grade, though there were some overpopulation issues. I want to say that it was in either the 2003-2004 or 2004-2005 year that we moved to the current location. In my knowledge we had never before then been located in that building and it had been empty for quite some time, which is why the city reissued it to us. I clearly remember that we had to go through many repairs and such and were missing many assets like keys to the lockers.
Though before we had had it, it had been a center for at risk teen education from what I do recall so that was correct, and the local area population was very displeased about the arrival of the gifted center, due to racial tensions and the relocation of the at risk teens, and there were small, but non-violent crowds picketing around for quite a while.
While the location information needs updating the rest of the information seems correct enough.
If anyone happens to update this with the correct information, thanks. As I said I have no way to verify which park it was but if any students or anyone happens to see this and find out, good luck! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2605:A000:C707:5500:119F:39E0:60CB:C459 (talk) 06:07, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
