• 1. 3rd Paragraph History Section: The stakes were run at Aqueduct Racetrack in 1959 and 1961, and again from 1918 to 1969 First statement implies the Aqueduct Racetrack was run as a one off in 1959, whilst the second has it run there from 1918 through till 1969 (which obviously includes the two highlighted dates.
• 2. Records Section: Man O' War is indicated as "shattering the work record" over 1⅝ miles, setting a time of 2:40 4/5 (or 2:40:80), but later Battle Joined is stated as the speed record holder over the same distance.

It was the distance (an eighth of a mile longer than the Belmont Stakes when it was run at 1 5/8 miles over most of its history), rather than the purse, which made it prestigious; it was the longest 3-year-old race on the calendar. I added that the only restriction was age, although to the best of my knowledge a filly never won and few probably ran. Again as far as I know, the length decreased in recent years. With more emphasis on speed and less on stamina, it became more difficult to attract quality horses; the Display Handicap – at one time a 2¼-mile marathon – was another casualty.
