Only Place for a McDonald's Restaurant / Drive Through to Close?

edit

There was a claim on the page that "Larne is also the only place in the world where a McDonald's restaurant/drive through closed down". Is there any evidence to support this? McDonald's regularly opens and closes restaurants around the world, and there are plenty of news stories [1] [2] [3] that support other franchises opening and closing. I have updated the page removing this claim, but please correct this if there is evidence to support that this is the only example of this. Mr Sheep Measham (talk) 18:01, 14 April 2012 (UTC) It's vandalism. You did the right thing taking it out. JonC 12:15, 14 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Churches

  • No there isn't any need for it. Some of what was written was using the page as an advertising platform or soapboaxing. This is in direct violation of one of wikipedia's five pillars. I have removed some of that content since it is clearly just spamming the page. I also changed the 250 year anniversary to 150 years since someone can't count, and the BIG BOLD HEADINGS FOR EACH CHURCH, since it makes the page look messy. I think if there's to be a section on churches, it should give a list of them grouped by denomination. Ideally they shouldn't need mentioning, unless there's information that's of historical importance, relevant to that particular church. For example, on the Ballycarry page, James Orr, a Presbyterian United Irishman and poet are linked to the village church, and there's a monument in his honour. (NB there's no section dedicated to churches there, like in most other towns. Also we're not blessed like touristy Italy or the middle east, both of which are in possession of ornate churches of historical importance). Rob.latharna (talk) 20:19 22 October 2013 (UTC)

why has my references to the origin of Olderfleet castle( danish name ) been removed I have included a good reference. I agrred withDColt that the churches section is too large the only really notable curch is the CHurch of ireland in Inver which has a really old grave and a fanastic history.

In the Larne page it says

"11 July 2000: Andrew Cairns a Protestant and UVF member was allegedly murdered by members of his own organisation at an eleventh night bonfire celebration in a loyalist feud at Boyne Square"

Please provide proof that Andrew Cairns was a UVF member and not murdered for another reason

A reference has been added. In the book Lost Lives, the father of Andrew Cairns states his son was a member of the UVF.Also David Ervine was among the attendees in the paramilitary funeral provided in Larne for Andrew Cairns.DColt (talk) 13:00, 17 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

Name of town in lead sentence

edit

For the benefit of whoever keeps adding the Ulster Scots name "Lairne" to the beginning of the article, please remember this is the English language Wikipedia, and names in other languages shouldn't take precedence. The following is taken from our MoS for Ireland-related articles (WP:IMOS), with my emphasis:

"For articles on places on the island of Ireland, show the modern name in English, Irish and, if appropriate, Scots in the infobox if the article has one. For places in the Republic of Ireland, other names should be shown in parentheses immediately after the common name in the lead. For places in Northern Ireland, only show non-English-language names in parentheses after the bolded name if the name in that language demonstrates the origin of the common name. Other names and etymologies can be described in the body of the article (after the lead, if the article has one)."

Please stick to this standardised format in future. Jellyman (talk) 12:46, 13 June 2016 (UTC)Reply
