editI vehemently oppose the deletion of this article. The notability guidelines for an athlete include amateur athletes who are competing at the highest level and Kevin Jones absolutely meets this guideline. He is currently a starter and one of the best players on a top 10 college basketball team that this weekend will play in front of a national television audience of millions of viewers. In addition within the next two years (barring injury) he will without a doubt be selected to the NBA draft and become a professional athlete at the highest level.
- Section 2 of WP:ATHLETE mentioning playing at the highest level of amateur sport is there for sports such as olympic events or those with world championships where a professional league does not exist. If things go as you mention and he one day joins an NBA team then he will easily meet WP:ATHLETE but that possibility doesn't make him notable per WP:CRYSTAL.--RadioFan (talk) 01:28, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
-People who have competed at the highest amateur level of a sport, usually considered to mean the Olympic Games or World Championships. Usually considered to mean- Judging from the rather significant number of articles on college basketball players (including two on Jones' team-Devin Ebanks and Da'Sean Butler) this does not mean the only amateur athletes that meet the notable person guideline are Olympic or World Championship Athletes. I would argue that even if Kevin Jones does not get drafted he has already easily achieved the "highest amateur level" requirement for a notable person. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Njamesdingman (talk • contribs) 01:55, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
