Talk:John F. Kennedy School, Berlin

Latest comment: 3 years ago by Disturbnce

Hang on, isn't JFK school an American school, not an international school? And one of two major international schools--what happened to Berlin International School, and Berlin Brandenburg International School?

JFK is one of the few true international schools in the world in the sense that it was supported by both the German and the U.S. Government. The school is accredited by national authorities in both countries. In contrast, most "international" schools are operating under the supervision of only one national educational authority and therefore issue an IB or such, which is an equivalent to certain national school diplomas. JFK actually issues a 100% German Abitur and a 100% U.S. High School Diploma.
(I also don't think Berlin Int'l and Berlin-BB Int'l are "major" schools, historically - they came along far later than JFK and are comparably small in size... at least until recently. That's partly due to high tuition fees, while JFK is a public school and tuition is free.) --90.10.130.123 20:09, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

JFKS is perhaps better described as multi-national or bi-national, (the school calls itself simply German-American, not international,) as "international school" generally describes a system which admits students of any nationality and offers an international qualification like the International Baccalaureate or similar. JFKS admits almost exclusively US American and/or German citizens and nationals, and offers the US High School Diploma and the German Abitur (plus MSA), no international qualification. It is a model school for similar institutions in many countries. It is one of only two (major?) schools like this in Berlin (alongside the Nelson Mandela school I suppose), which it what I think the mentioned section is describing. Fair use rationale for Image:JFKSlogo.jpg

edit

Image:JFKSlogo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

2018 anti Semitic incident at the JFK School

edit

This section is rather out of proportion compared to the rest of the article. Needs to be shortened. Although there is quite a list of references, it is difficult to figure what statements in the lists are backed up by which references. This needs to be fixed. Otherwise they ought to be removed. Sent the following message to Tristan Strzelczyk on 14 May 2019:

This addition to the JFK school article is simply too long compared to the rest of the article. So much detail is uncalled for, in particualar some of the ugly details. Can they even be found in any of the references? The references need to be cleaned up anyway. Wikipedia generally requires that references are cited in the respective sentances and not simply all tagged on at the end. I suggest shortening this to about one paragraph, leaving out unnecessary detailed examples, and making sure that just a few pertinent references are at the right places. Otherwise, I'd be glad to shorten the text. Incedently, my sources at JFK School tell me the story as you present is biased. Greetings from a JFKS allumni Alandeus (talk) 08:36, 14 May 2019 (UTC)Reply
