This source seems to imply that Keri was his second wife. The source, referring to his son John James (JJ) Altobelli, says JJ has two sisters, Alexis and Alyssa, and one brother, Timmy. His parents are John Altobelli and Barbara Woorsam. Yoninah (talk) 01:35, 27 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Yoninah, the LA Times article from 1992 mentioning his hiring at OCC lists his wife as Barbara. – Muboshgu (talk) 01:43, 27 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Muboshgu: OK, so why are news reports calling the wife Keri? Yoninah (talk) 01:48, 27 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yoninah, guessing that's his second wife. I don't see definitive sourcing on it. – Muboshgu (talk) 03:42, 27 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Muboshgu: I found all the history on fanrags.com and added it, sourcing to other refs where I could. J.J. is getting married this year and lists Timmy Woo-Sam as one of his groomsmen, so it looks like Timmy isn't one of Altobelli's children. Why does John Altobelli's page have an "External Links" section for Kobe Bryant? Altobelli was not related to him. They were friends who happened to die together. People can find out more about Kobe Bryant's family, films or his China Fund can do it at Kobe's own page, right?Nelson.1319 (talk) 16:08, 27 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Nelson.1319, that template should not have been there. I removed it. – Muboshgu (talk) 16:12, 27 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

Relation to Joe?

edit

Is there any source that states the relation (if any) to Joe Altobelli? John was the 6th of 8 children, and Joe had 6 children, so father/son is unlikely. Is there any relation? Rgrds. --Bison X (talk) 05:21, 28 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

We're still looking, but so far have not found any verification for the relationship. Yoninah (talk) 14:19, 28 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
The Rochester Red Wings, which Joe managed in the 1970s, has put out a statement that Joe and John are not related: https://www.rochesterfirst.com/news/local-news/red-wings-no-rochester-connection-to-altobelli-family-killed-in-helicopter-crash/ Bro rick (talk) 15:27, 28 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
I assumed that if they were related, it would have been known pretty quickly. – Muboshgu (talk) 15:34, 28 January 2020 (UTC)Reply

I had edited the page to include the acknowledgement that they weren't related, but it was deleted by another editor who felt it was irrelevant. Honest opinion we should leave something in there for a few reasons. One of the articles linked says John's father was a former pro ball player, but does not mention his name. Second, Joe was part of the Cubs organization and the article I previously alluded to mentions the Cubs. And just to piggy back on Muboshug's comment about it being know quickly, it was nearly a day later that it was reported that one of the victims killed in the Gabby Giffords shooting was related to former MLB manager Dallas Green. Confirmation of relationships doesn't always happen as fast as you assume. Sportsfan1976 (Sportsfan1976) I'm only here because I'm not currently somewhere else. Death

edit

The special paragraph in the lead and the bulleted Death section is completely out of place for Wikipedia biographies. It's enough that we have all the details in a dedicated page, Death of Kobe Bryant. When page views settle down, this presentation also should be toned down. Yoninah (talk) 23:58, 28 January 2020 (UTC)`Reply

More should be added to article overall rather than anything to be toned down or removed in my opinion. Bio's on Wikipedia are often going to have a section for the persons death especially if it was something that was sudden, and one sentence in the lead is gonna accompany that. If you mean toned down like toning down the Kobe focus in the sentence/paragraph, that I could agree with. WikiVirusC(talk) 02:16, 8 February 2020 (UTC)Reply
