This article is notable

edit

It's quite common to have articles for superagers, especially someone who at some time holds the record for oldest male or female in the world. See Oldest people. The notability banner was added prematurely. It should be removed. Pinging DerbyCountyinNZ. Sundayclose (talk) 16:30, 27 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

The article fails WP:NOPAGE. There is nothing here (yet) of encyclopedic value that is not available in the relevant lists (as with many earlier bios which were deleted through Afd for the same reason, and others). DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 20:01, 27 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
Amending the above, Longeviquest and the GRG are both WP:PRIMARY SOURCEs which means any content from them fails SIGCOV. As nothing in the biography section is referenced it is unclear where that material originates. DerbyCountyinNZ (Talk Contribs) 20:14, 27 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

He's the oldest living man on the planet out of a total of over 4 billion men. Obviously very notable, as would be any oldest living man. 1779Days (talk) 21:00, 27 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

You are conflating two different issues: notability and adequacy of some of the sources. There is sufficient sourcing to verify that he is the oldest living man in the world. That's quite notable. There is no absolute prohibition that says we can never use a primary source. If the source is reliable and verifies his age, it's acceptable. If you want to put up a banner about adequacy of sources, that's fine. But the notability banner needs to go. @DerbyCountyinNZ and 1779Days: Sundayclose (talk) 23:17, 27 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
And also note: there is a citation to Correio Braziliense, which is not a primary source. It's an independent newspaper. Sundayclose (talk) 23:22, 27 November 2024 (UTC)Reply
