Endorsement of indicted official
editThe reference to the TV spot cut by the Congressman is a neutral statement of a startling, relevant and incongruent fact that should stand.Pr4ever (talk) 11:03, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- Has his appearance been written about in any independent and reliable sources (like a paper)?--Appraiser (talk) 15:18, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- "Neutral"? More like a sneer. I'll let others explaint to Pr4ever why "In September 2008 he appeared in a TV ad[1] endorsing a gubernatorial candidate who will go to trial after the November 2008 elections for a 32-count federal Grand Jury indictment for corruption, in spite of his strong anti-corruption postures" violates NPOV and OR, and is also not helpful at all to the reader, in that it does not say who the candidate in question is.--jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 15:28, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- The national media has paid little attention to Puerto Rico Governor Aníbal Acevedo Vilá's indictments (yes, a first 19-count Federal Grand Jury indictment in March 2008 and a superceding 5-count indictment several months later) for public and political corruption (things such as accepting an illegal $250,000 payment in the Governor's Mansion), but has been widely covered by Spanish language media on the island. I sourced my edit with the You Tube version of the TV ad, which has been discussed by the mainstream broadcast media in Puerto Rico. The indictments have received less national coverage than the legal troubles of the former Gov. of Alabama, the former Gov. of Connecticut or, more recently, the mayor of Detroit. Such is the mistreatment of being a territory, which need not be replicated in wikipedia. If the objection is that the candidate is not identified (although the gist of the matter is that an endorsement has been issued to an indicted official, regardless of who he may be), the name can be added. Pr4ever (talk) 22:26, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- New edit text is the product of additional sourcing and text suggestions made by two editors. See User talk:Jpgordon Pr4ever (talk) 05:38, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
- As I look at the sources just now, two are Spanish-language blogs, and one is a You-tube video. None of them pass muster for adequate sourcing. Is there a Reliable source that talks about Oberstar's connection/endorsement of the governor or not? If it's not covered by a published source, we can't include it.--Appraiser (talk) 14:23, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- Puerto Rico's only English-language newspaper, The San Juan Star, closed down this summer. The blog source is actually the Acevedo Vilá official campaign blog announcing the placement of the spot. The other source is not a blog but a Primera Hora newspaper article, clearly "a published source" (albeit in Spanish), and the You Tube cite allows you to actually see Oberstar's endorsement. These are the only sources available that I have been able to find. The spot's on TV virtually every night, so it's not as if it doesn't exist. Pr4ever (talk) 02:09, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Former Congressman
editPortions of this article read like he's still in Congress. I suppose it's fine to keep that he is a member of the Democratic Farmer Labor Party, but other things like political positions and committee/caucus membership should be truncated or made in the past tense. Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page
editCyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.
