On 24 February 2022, it was proposed that this article be moved from Jeanette (singer) to Jeanette (Spanish singer). The result of the discussion was moved. |
Untitled
editI propose that this article be moved to "Jeanette (singer)" seeing as how Jeanette is her stage name, and the name "Jeanette Dimech" is not correct either. Her birth name is Janette Dimech, without the initial E. When she released her first solo single, the record label made a mistake and spelled her name "Jeanette" and that has been her stage name ever since. However, she has never been referred to as "Jeanette Dimech". My source is the liner notes to her compilation "Todas sus grabaciones en Discos Hispavox con PIC-NIC y en solitario (1967-1976)". In the liner notes she says the following:
La casa de discos preparó muy bien las cosas, aunque se equivocó en una: mi nombre. Porque siendo yo inglesa de nacimiento en Inglaterra mi nombre se escribe Janette, sin la primera "e". En fin, la cosa no tenía demasiada importancia, pero definitivamente me quedé para siempre como Jeanette a partir de la portada de mi primer disco.
Translation:
The record label prepared everything very well, although they made one mistake: my name. Because with me being English by birth in England, my name is written Janette without the first "E". In the end, it wasn't that important, but I would forever remain known as Jeanette ever since my first album cover.
As we can see, her legal name is Janette Dimech, but her stage name is Jeanette. Therefore, Jeanette Dimech is an incorrect name as it is neither her legal nor her stage name. Joeschmoe2003 16:42, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
Porque te vas
editI think that the title is "Porque te vas" (BECAUSE you're leaving) and not "Por que te vas" (WHY are you leaving). I don't have the official lyrics, but it appears as "porque te vas" in most of the websites I've found. It also makes more sense considering the lyrics of the song. Ben Gershon (talk) 02:59, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
- In some lyrics i've seen there are question marks. Therefore i conclude it's a question, not a statement, so should be translated as “why”. But the sources do differ… — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.24.10.104 (talk) 17:39, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
Age
editQuote from the article: "Born October 10, 1951 (1951-10-10) (age 56)" I doubt somebody will keep updating her age every year. That should be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Srelu (talk • contribs) 04:52, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Requested move back to Jeanette (singer)
editSomebody moved this page to Janette without an E because her legal first name is spelled Janette. While this is her legal name, her stage name that she is most commonly known by is Jeanette with an E, therefore the page should be moved back (I was unable to move it back due to it having been turned into a redirect page.)Joeschmoe2003 (talk) 21:35, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
- This appears to be totally uncontroversial. It looks like an editor moved it to her full legal name and two minutes later decided to move it back but misspelled it. (Note to admin: the former Talk:Jeanette (singer) is now stuck at Talk:Janette Anne Dimech.) Station1 (talk) 06:15, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, so how can we fix it? I cannot delete the Jeanette (singer) redirect page since I am not admin, and I cannot move this page back until that page has been deleted.Joeschmoe2003 (talk) 20:59, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
- Just wait a few days for an admin to come along and fix it. Or if you're in a hurry I think it might be reasonable to move this up to "uncontroversial moves" on WP:RM if you want, since it's only a revert of a recent move to a misspelling. Station1 (talk) 04:10, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

Split
editI think this song deserves its own article or at least it should be a section in its composer, José Luis Perales. The history and covers of this song has nothing to do with Jeanette. I am adding the aproppiate template.--Sdelfranco (talk) 15:38, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
- I agree, there is enough material to form a new article and most of it has nothing to do with Jeanette anyway--Ryk V (talk) 17:20, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

Jeanette (singer) → Jeanette (Spanish singer) – Ambiguity with Jeanette Biedermann, a German singer whose entire discography was released under the mononym "Jeanette". 162 etc. (talk) 01:03, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. Biedermann is known by her full name in many reliable sources,[1] as well as AllMusic, IMDB, on her own Instagram page and on her latest album cover. And this singer is getting 6 x the pageviews of Biedermann. For the rare reader who might search for Biedermann under "Jeanette (singer)", a hatnote on this article would be adequate. Station1 (talk) 04:53, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- Support per nomination. Since there are two singers who use the stage name "Jeanette", the main title header "Jeanette (singer)" represents incomplete disambiguation. According to Talk:Jeanette (singer)#Requested move back to Jeanette (singer), above, the original or previous title of this article was "Janette Anne Dimech". The comparative popularity of the two singers is immaterial unless one entry becomes the primary topic for the name "Jeanette" in the manner of Madonna becoming the primary topic for the name "Madonna". Nominations regarding mononymous singers are a relatively common occurrence and two such nominations are currently active — Stefan Airapetjan → Stefan (Estonian singer) at Talk:Stefan Airapetjan#Requested move 18 February 2022 and Andrea Koevska → Andrea (Macedonian singer) at Talk:Andrea Koevska#Requested move 18 February 2022. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 08:58, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- This article was at Janette Anne Dimech for literally 2 minutes in March 2009, followed by a few days at the misspelled Janette (singer). Otherwise it has been stable since 2005 with no problems. More importantly, there is no indication that there are currently two singers who both use the stage name Jeanette. Every source I could find uses Biedermann's surname, and she uses it herself on her web page and on her album cover. The chances of people searching for her as "Jeanette (singer)" are tiny. Station1 (talk) 19:18, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- As pointed out in the nomination, the releases for the German singer (seen at Discogs) depict her stage name as "Jeanette", not "Jeanette Biedermann". Hundreds of such mononymous performers are enumerated at List of one-word stage names. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 20:48, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- Interestingly, Jeanette Biedermann is not one of the hundreds of names on that list. Station1 (talk) 06:37, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
- No doubt, the list is inconsistent and incomplete. Since its creation in March 2003, it had been dependent over the years upon three or four editors for its expansion and upkeep, but in recent years has been only occasionally updated. Obviously, a number of names are going to be missing from the list, but the sheer number of names that it already contains is a useful confirmation that mononymical stage names are indeed commonplace. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 01:24, 26 February 2022 (UTC)

- Weak support the threshold for partial disambiguation is high so even if the other is only sometimes just "Jeanette" partial disambiguation should generally be avoided. Crouch, Swale (talk) 09:35, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- Weak support per nom, redirect Jeanette (singer) to DAB.--Ortizesp (talk) 21:03, 24 February 2022 (UTC)

Janet is NOT a Spaniard! CULTURAL USURPATION ALERT
editShe is NOT from Spain, she is a BRIT by nationality and a Maltese by ETHNICITY! She has 0 Spanish blood. Her DNA cannot be altered by MOVING to Spain at any point in her life, especially past the age of 7 when children will then speak with a strong foreign accent. This person is a PHONY! She is to be considered Malto-English and nothing more!!! In what universe is "Dimech" a name for Spaniard?! She also bears a PHONY French name, and should stop usurping other nations cultures, you are a "Janet" not a "Jeanette"! Tired of cultural appropriation of ANY nation by foreigners of ANY kind and the inane Wikipedia articles that enable them! (And I can say this, because it's White on White usurpation!)
