editThe dates are sometimes given as 1845-1910. Overall, he seems a pretty mysterious figure; personally, I believe he was simply a pseudonym for Henri Vieuxtemps.D SCH 22:08, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
In the sheet music for A minor, it said he was born in 1845 - 1910. I think Wikipedia should change the date to 1845 - 1910, because there is no backup to the date that is on Wikipedia right now.--No-hackers (talk) 00:13, 16 August 2010 (UTC)
Documentation Found
editI did a little digging in Google Books, and found some period references to J. B. Accolay of Bruges, a teacher of solfège and violin. I'm concerned that this constitutes original research, however:
In http://books.google.com/books?id=Kek8AAAAMAAJ&pg=RA3-PT15&dq=accolay+vieuxtemps+-hypothesized&hl=en&sa=X&ei=Vsv8U5TVPMnmsATvgoD4BA&ved=0CDsQ6AEwBg#v=onepage&q=accolay%20vieuxtemps%20-hypothesized&f=false, it is recorded that in Bruges he, along with the pianist De Brauwere and the violist Rappé, organized and performed in a series of concerts that lasted for at least 17 years.
This footnote (http://books.google.com/books?id=860HAQAAMAAJ&q=Brauwere+Accolay+Rappe&dq=Brauwere+Accolay+Rappe&hl=en&sa=X&ei=ysz8U8LuKtOAygSOvICQCg&ved=0CCUQ6AEwAQ) records that in the second of those concerts, the Brahms f-minor Piano Quintet Op. 34 was performed.
This footnote (http://books.google.com/books?id=IhFKAAAAcAAJ&pg=PA39&dq=%22J.+B.+Accolay%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=Vc38U9m1JMOcyASR8YL4Dg&ved=0CCIQ6AEwAQ#v=onepage&q=%22J.%20B.%20Accolay%22&f=false) records that he was a teacher of solfège (though not the violin) at the Bruges Conservatoire.
The reference at http://books.google.com/books?id=xuw8AAAAMAAJ&pg=PA360&dq=%22J.+B.+Accolay%22&hl=en&sa=X&ei=Vc38U9m1JMOcyASR8YL4Dg&ved=0CB0Q6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=%22J.%20B.%20Accolay%22&f=false mentions a performance of his overture to the drama Les Templiers.
All of this is well encapsulated in the brief biography at http://www.svm.be/content/accolay-jean-baptiste?display=biography&language=en, which at this point is much more sensible than what we have here. Any takers? If not, I'll see what I can do. Jason Fruit (talk) 18:31, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
