Image for the lead section

edit

The articles of Christianity, Islam, Buddhism and Sikhism uses image of their holy site as their lead section image. So, I think it would be better to use image of Holy temple or Holy site instead of using images of deities in the lead section. Note - When image of a deity (Statue of lord Rishabhadeva) was added it was removed for a reason cuz someone said "the image does not represent Jainism as it has sects that do not believe in such idols and their worship. It only represents a section and is not representative of all followers and a general perception of the religion." AimanAbir18plus (talk) 12:52, 30 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

I think that putting an image of a holy site could bring up the same issue as selecting an image of a deity. Reason being, not everyone will agree on the single most important temple or site. Perhaps the previously proposed lead image can be incorporated elsewhere in the article relating to the specific sects that it is important for. But I think the current lead image is good because it is an image that the community has identified as representing themselves. Swirlymarigold (talk) 01:42, 1 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Currently, there is no lead image. AimanAbir18plus (talk) 06:12, 1 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
For a lead image, I suggest going for an image of the Jal Mandir in Pawapuri as all sects of Jainism agree on that as the cremation place of Mahavira. ParvatPrakash (talk) 11:40, 1 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
I meant the topmost image in the infobox should remain at the top. The issue is not whether all Jain sects will agree on a fact about the site such as its relevance, but whether everyone will take a single image to be the most important representation of their faith. I think the recently added lead image of the Jal Mandir may be better placed elsewhere and the infobox be at the top. Swirlymarigold (talk) 00:22, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Swirlymarigold Yes, I agree with that as well. I just feel that if someone objects to anything, they would raise it here in the discussion, but interchanging the positions of the picture of Jal Mandir and the infobox is also a good idea. I would've agreed to using a picture of an idol, but it won't go down well with everyone, given the different iconography of both the major sects. I think switching the picture and the infobox is a good idea. ParvatPrakash (talk) 02:05, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
The articles of Sikhism, Christianity and Islam all have infobox where image of holy site/ holy temple are present (e.g. Golden Temple in the Sikhism infobox). So, adding an infobox would be good idea where the image of Jal Mandir (or any other holy site/temple) could be placed. AimanAbir18plus (talk) 07:34, 2 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Please help by expanding the infobox. AimanAbir18plus (talk) 09:32, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Hello, your edit of image of Pawapuri Jal mandir has been reverted by me. Pawapuri Jal mandir is not an eternal tirth. Lord Mahavira was the last Tirthankar of Jainism, that too in just Bharat Kshetra. There is already a lot of misconceptions in minds of people that Mahavira was founder of Jainism and such edits only strengthen these beliefs. Also, Pawapuri being cremation site is another ambiguous topic. Also, I am not sure what information will you put in the infobox as unlike Christianity, Sikhism and Islam; Jainism is considered to be an eternal dharma without any origin date and place. A significant Jain literature is in prakrit language however Jainism doesn't strongly associate itself with a particular language. Livingstonshr (talk) 21:33, 4 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
There is still a lot of information about Jainism that can very well go into the infobox. Infoboxes make articles interesting to audience, short, succint, and attract interest from a plethora of classes of audience. Ifnyou believe dir is not ParvatPrakash (talk) 02:59, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
I think there were typos, so my reply didn't post properly. I meant that if you don't think Jal Mandir is suitable, we should go for an eternal pilgrimage site such as Palitana temples or Girnar Jain temples. Please avoid reverting changes without a discussion. Infobox, in my opinion, is a necessity for a detailed article as this is. I vote to keep it, but change the picture to something else more relevant if not Jal Mandir. We can go for the hill with 850+ temples i.e. Palitana temples instead. ParvatPrakash (talk) 03:04, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Also, if you say that Digambaras don't believe he was cremated, the people of that sect still offer the 'Nirvana Laddu' at the Jal Mandir that is usually offered at the place of moksha. It does hold importance for both the sects. ParvatPrakash (talk) 03:08, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Infobox is necessary but as I mentioned earlier, image of holy site which is accepted by majority could be placed in the infobox. AimanAbir18plus (talk) 08:54, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Individual opinion could differ, but the majority accepts Palitana temples as the most important pilgrimage site with over 850+ temples on a single hill. So, I guess it's good enough.ParvatPrakash (talk) 09:30, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes. AimanAbir18plus (talk) 10:16, 5 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Why is the infobox so empty?

edit

Was there a decision to empty it, or has the information not been filled yet? Because even the name parameter is blank. Pur 0 0 (talk) 08:35, 18 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

Information is yet to be filled in. Infobox was just recently added seeing that almost all other religions' pages have one. We need to fill in details here. I would soon be working on it as well. ParvatPrakash (talk) 09:16, 18 October 2024 (UTC)Reply
