Gay Icon Project

edit

In my effort to merge the now-deleted list from the article Gay icon to the Gay icons category, I have added this page to the category. I engaged in this effort as a "human script", adding everyone from the list to the category, bypassing the fact-checking stage. That is what I am relying on you to do. Please check the article Gay icon and make a judgment as to whether this person or group fits the category. By distributing this task from the regular editors of one article to the regular editors of several articles, I believe that the task of fact-checking this information can be expedited. Thank you very much. Philwelch 22:15, 24 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Trivia Section

edit

Per WP:TRIV, trivia sections should be delisted and notable information incorporated within the prose. If someone more familiar with the subject could do this, that would save any information that would be lost in a wholesale deletion of the entire section. Joe Cole

edit

This tragedy deserves to be reported accurately and responsibly. Can we get a reference that Smith had adopted Joe Cole? It was my understanding that Joe Cole did not live full-time with Smith and Dennis Cole during their brief marriage. Calling him her son, or even her stepson, is incorrect and un-encyclopedic. Just because one's parent remarries during one's adolescence does not make one's parent's new spouse one's stepparent. This addition seems tangential and tabloidesque. Please respond here on the talk page to explain why your understanding of their family situation was different before re-adding the claim or it will be presumed to be vandalism. True Beauty

edit

I wish more was elaborated on why Jaclyn Smith is considered so beautiful. I think it is because she comes across as a strong positive compassionate caring person - a heroic romantic ideal. Physical beauty is a form of power, especially these days. Power corrupts but Jaclyn seems to have remained uncorrupted by her physical beauty and this makes her truly wonderful. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.234.179.52 (talk) 03:35, 13 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

There is already a section explicitly devoted to notable recognition of Smith's beauty. You raise some interesting points, but our own opinions are unfit for an encyclopedia biography. If you can find a legitimate, WP:Reliable source of a WP:Notable observer who has been published saying the sorts of things you have said in your own words here, please feel free to add it to that section of the article with those sources clearly indicated; if you don't yet know how to format it, you can post the links/quotes here on this talk page and if it meets Wikipedia guidelines and is appropriate for inclusion, another editor will be happy to place it in the article for you. Correct birthname and year of birth

edit

I put backs the three original first person source references concerning her name and age. Family Tree legend source unreliable as it is a cite any one can edit with out reliable references or references other sites which reference back to site it was referencing. JGG59 (talk) 13:58, 29 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Dear sir or madam: I do not know why you feel you can override the Texas Births, 1926-1995. Family Tree Legends Records Collection (Online Database). Pearl Street Software, 2004-2005 regarding Jaclyn Smith's birth name and year of birth, but you cannot, unless you can provide a more accurate source which contradicts the database info. TV Guide and People Weekly do not qualify in that regard. They are completely unreliable puff piece infotainment, in which Smith (like many other actresses) shaved some years off her age!!

Your reasoning ("Family Tree legend source unreliable as it is a cite any one can edit with out reliable references or references other sites which reference back to site it was referencing") is nonsense. It is (at least a portion of) the State of Texas's birth and death registry! Have you even visited the site? If you change it again I will take the matter to WP:ANI as this is unacceptable unilateralist behavior. Yours, Quis separabit? 19:05, 29 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

First you don't know me and your aggressive tone is not appreciated and don't threaten me........ this is wiki for god sake. There have been many times on Wiki where the Official sites have been "wrong" and the fluff pieces as you call them have been "right". If you would like to discuss further lets keep on the Jaclyn smith talk page. I did not leave article with out reliable references and to assume someone is lying Ms Smith or my self whom you don't know, get a grip.. I'm not that invested in being right at the expense of the truth. JGG59 (talk) 20:38, 29 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
A) I did not accuse you of lying, but many if not most actresses lie about their ages; that has been proved by the changes in accepted years of birth that have been appearing non-stop, either after posthumously or via the Internet -- sites like Ancestry.com, Intelius, census records, etc. So yes I think Smith shaved two years off her age. No big deal in and of itself and less than other actresses, but it is what it is.
B) Moreover, you are the one who unilaterally made the changes without discussion on the talk page first, and to make matters worse, you give more credence to the likes of TV Guide and People Magazine, which are not reliable in comparison with and can't ever supercede a state's (in this case, Texas) official registry of births/deaths. (Not all 50 states have these public registries, unfortunately, and Texas's is not complete, but these are official records; perhaps you were confused by the title "Familytree Legends".)Quis separabit? 21:57, 29 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Just in case, anyone needs any added info from the Texas Birth Index, 1903-1997 about Smith:
Name: Jacquelyn Ellen Smith
Date of Birth: 26 Oct 1945
Gender: Female
Birth County: Harris
Father's Name: Jack Smith
Mother's Name: Margaret Ellen Hartsfield
Roll Number: 1945_0010

Removal of birth name and date of birth

edit

I have removed the birth name, date of birth, and the accompanying citation to Texas Births, 1926–1995. Family Tree Legends Records Collection. The text on that page indicates that the data come from birth certificates, which means that using that source violates WP:BLPPRIMARY. It specifies, "Do not use trial transcripts and other court records, or other public documents, to support assertions about a living person. Do not use public records that include personal details, such as date of birth, ..."

We need a reliable, published, non-primary source for both the birth name and the date of birth. Eddie Blick (talk) 02:17, 23 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
