The usual practice for our articles about activities is to put them under the "-ing" form, as in stamp collecting or mining, and redirect objects and doers to that topic, at least until it gets very large and needs to be split. Stan 23:10, 22 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Keeping insects as pets

edit

What about collecting insects for the purposes of keeping them as pets and/or battling them with other peoples' insects, and enjoying watching them metamorphose and grow older?

Maybe something like insects as pets, insect rearing would be better for that? See also insect fighting (and its cousin, spider fighting). Richard001 (talk) 06:57, 22 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Merge from Entomological equipment for mounting and storage

edit

I just came across Entomological equipment for mounting and storage. It's generally unreferenced, but I do like the layout, especially the non-lead content. Seems like it would fit well in place of the current text at this article in the section that links there right now. I personally wouldn't have time to do this for awhile, so I thought I'd put the merger proposal up for now at least. Either way, the equipment article largely seems unneeded as a separate article. There are thirteen entries in the "External links". Three seems to be an acceptable number and of course, everyone has their favorite to add for four. The problem is that none is needed for article promotion.
  • ELpoints #3) states: Links in the "External links" section should be kept to a minimum. A lack of external links or a small number of external links is not a reason to add external links.
  • LINKFARM states: There is nothing wrong with adding one or more useful content-relevant links to the external links section of an article; however, excessive lists can dwarf articles and detract from the purpose of Wikipedia. On articles about topics with many fansites, for example, including a link to one major fansite may be appropriate.
  • WP:ELMIN: Minimize the number of links.
  • WP:ELCITE: access dates are not appropriate in the external links section. Do not use {{cite web}} or other citation templates in the External links section. Citation templates are permitted in the Further reading section. -- Otr500 (talk) 03:49, 10 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Questions

edit

- Why was there a mentioning about insects having to die after being collected? I think it should be talked more about. Bendoncaramel (talk) 21:47, 2 April 2023 (UTC)Reply

Repeated photo

edit

The penultimate photo (File:StagedSyrphidae.jpg) is a repetition of the seventh photo, with different & shorter caption. – Hamid Hassani (talk) 11:38, 19 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
