I went to the library in the town where the paper is located. When I asked how to verify the date the Independent Tribune started, I was referred to microfilm. There was no article stating the papers had merged, and the first Independent Tribune is not even microfilmed. I know who has a copy and tried to get it included in the state's program to microfilm old newspapers (though not old, it won't become old if not preserved) but never heard whether they did it. All of a sudden on October 1, 1996, it is the Independent Tribune. I know the previous Sunday's paper was the first. And the library has an index which states it was.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 18:19, 18 February 2015 (UTC)Reply
