List 'em

edit

It might be helpful to list precisely which nations constitute Iberoamerica, as no doubt there are many who are unfamiliar with this term. ekedolphin July 6, 2005 03:24 (UTC)

Haiti

edit

Why is haiti shaded in on the map? -- SmthManly / ManlyTalk / ManlyContribs 18:23, 9 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

edit from a non member

sorry, dont know how to post a new one...

just to point out that French Guiana is also shaded in on the map

Andorra

edit

User:Marianocecowski reverted a recent change with the message "Andorra not part of the Iberian Peninsula!". Although it may be debatable whether Andorra is part of the peninsula or not, it recently became a member of the Organizacion de Estados Iberoamericanos [1], so I think it's worth mentioning both in the article text and in the figure caption.--Itub 18:45, 17 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Equatorial Guinea

edit

i know they're neither american or iberian, and only know that spanish is an official language. do they fall under the category of hispanohablante countries that commune with spain and the others? can they be included in this article or should they be, even as an aside to mention non-participation (if that's the case)? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.82.3.91 (talk) 04:39, 28 December 2006 (UTC).Reply

Cleaned up the definitions/intro

edit

Hi. I know nothing about this topic, but before my edit, there were three different definitions, and no explanation of their relationship (so each was claiming to be the definition). I've reduced it to two definitions: one is the Spanish and Portuguese speaking countries of Latin America, and the other is those plus the Iberian peninsula of Europe, and I've noted that there are two definitions, so the reader knows that it's not a mistake. Some review would be good. I presume there is no "one true definition". Gronky 02:15, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

There is no "one true definition", but for some official purposes the member list of the Organization of Ibero-American States can provide a good working definition. --Itub 18:10, 10 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

spain aren't is in america. portugal aren't is in america. andorra aren't is in america. andorra never had got a colony in america. if includes in america spain, portugal and andorra, why no includes usa in this? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 88.19.29.234 (talk) 15:52, 12 May 2007 (UTC).Reply

stupid! Spain and Portugal estan en la P.Iberica pro eso IBEROamerica

I agree to 88.19.29.234. If Ibero-America includes Portugal, Spain and Andorra, then Latin-America should include these three countries plus France, Monaco, San Marino, Italy, Moldova and Romania, right? As well Hispanic-America should include Spain too. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.8.126.110 (talk) 02:38, 6 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Please, read the article properly before coming here to discuss non-issues. It just clutters the page. Thank you. The Ogre (talk) 13:02, 6 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hispanics in the United States - requested move

edit

Hello everyone. There is at present a discussion going on at Hispanics in the United States, due to the request that the page be moved to Hispanic Americans. Would you like to comment please? Thank you. The Ogre 18:04, 4 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't make sense to move this to "Hispanic Americans", since that is not what is being discussed. The article is on the use of terms "Ibero-America" ans "Ibero-American" in specified context, e.g. the summits mentioned.--- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.60.55.7 (talk) 17:10, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merge discussion

edit

Latin America and Ibero-America? Different names for the same thing right? Merge? Gregcaletta (talk) 01:52, 23 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Close, but not exactly. Ibero-America would NOT include French speaking parts of Latin America. ludahai 魯大海 (talk) 12:26, 23 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
No, not even close. In fact, besides not coinciding geographically (furthermore for the fact that in some definitions Ibero-America includes the Iberian Peninsula!), they constitute two opposed visions of what should we call Spanish and Portuguese speaking America. The Ogre (talk) 12:43, 23 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Dominica?

edit

Should Dominica be included among the English speaking countries that is not part of Ibero-America? 14 January 2010 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.216.128.89 (talk) 21:34, 14 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

European countries shouldn't be included

edit

European countries aren't in Ibero-America, compare version in Spanish. — Preceding unsigned comment added by André Martín Espinal Lavado (talkcontribs) 19:19, 25 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Semantics

edit

Just a complaint that semantics, the bane of the English language, have thoroughly jacked this article. And that a linguistics pro is needed here, badly. Sadsaque (talk) 17:28, 18 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Guyana and Suriname

edit

The second paragraph in the lead implies that Guyana and Suriname are part of Latin America. These countries should be removed. Corndog234 (talk) 12:54, 17 May 2017 (UTC)Reply

I've changed the wording to try to clarify that. --Jotamar (talk) 13:25, 17 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
