I have now expanded this article and looked through the WP:ACADEMIC guidelines. I believe that Kessler, as a member of the Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, satisfies the Notability requirements under criteria 3. (The person is or has been an elected member of a highly selective and prestigious scholarly society or association.) I would like to remove the notability template, but I am not sure whether I count as having no conflict of interest when I had created the article myself. I would also like to apologise that I did not complete more of the translation of the German article initially so that the notability can be more clearly established.
