American reaction to "scheme"

edit

I suggest, for the purpose of this article, the word "scheme" be replaced with idea, concept, plan or silimar word. American English speakers could easily misinterpret the word "scheme" to describe something underhanded. As I understand it in Great Britain, a business plan is often called a scheme. From dictionary.com: "mainly British a plan formally adopted by a commercial enterprise or governmental body, as for pensions, etc" So scheme makes sense to Brits, in the colloquial. I'm American and it doesn't sound benign to me. Does anyone else have views on this, either Brit, Yank or anywhere else? MandieJ1975 (talk) 16:19, 8 December 2022 (UTC)Reply
