To those who watch this page: there was a past vocalist Jamey Shanahan, you may want to add him to the list of former members. I just filled album info, I don't listen to the band so.... He was on Under the Knife and probably on Satisfaction is the Death of Desire too, check if you want. (User_talk:Death2) Death2 02:57, 15 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Jamey Jasta is Shanahan's stage name. On Under the Knife he uses his real name but on Satisfaction he uses his stage name. I have both CDs and you can tell it's the same person from the photos. He looks a lot younger on Under the Knife as well. mh. 23:48, 16 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I added their 2006 tour plans to the article. They are playing the Ozzfest main stage, which is a pretty big accomplishment for a band, so I thought it was important enough to add. --BennyD 21:49, 21 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm not sure the band should be classed as Metalcore over Hardcore. Firstly, Metalcore usually has Maiden-esque melodies that Hatebreed do not have in their music. Obviously they aren't Hardcore as in the sense of Minor Threat and Bad Brains, but Agnostic Front are still regarded as hardcore despite introducing a more metallic edge to their sound. I suspect this classification is down to a snob level because the band have been successful. Paul Tew 09:30, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. Hatebreed is hardcore, not metalcore.

Agnostic Front are (now) a crossover thrash band, not "hardcore." And Hatebreed list themselves as "Hardcore / Metal / Punk" on MySpace [1], "Hardcore / Metal" on PureVolume [2], and Jasta says the band is, "definitely going in almost a more metal route" [3], so... 68.47.85.89 06:33, 8 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Metalcore is Metal and Hardcore combined. It doesn't have "Maiden-esque melodies." That's just some bands. They are a Metalcore band.72.177.178.215 08:59, 2 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Agreed Metalcore is Metal and Hardcore together so really you can put a bunch of other bands that are either or into the Metalcore catagory.

Name

edit

I heard a few years ago that the name Hatebreed was chosen because the lead singer was a rape baby - if someone can confirm and source this that would be an interesting fact to add. 70.20.120.172 02:48, 27 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

The name probably comes from The Misfits' "Hatebreeders."
I'm guessing this is from the lyrics for Conceived Through an Act of Violence. However the liner notes on Supremacy mention something about Jasta's father having to bury various family members, so I'd say he isn't one. mh. 00:43, 5 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Straight Edge

edit

who listet hatebreed under "straight edge"-bands?! Oo I found that:

Ilan: Are any members of the band Straight Edge, as the tune 'Kill an Addict' might suggest?

Sean: No, no one's Straight Edge. You don't have to be Edge to hate a drug addict, you know. Everyone's got their demons. All of us have dealt with the ravages of addiction and we've dealt with the terrors of it personally. 'Kill an Addict' is about a fucking scumbag addict who fucked you over, took your trust and stabbed you in the back. You don't have to be Edge to hate a junkie. At the same time, we totally support Straight Edge, and, even though we're not personally, we believe that everybody should go out and do what they want to do. A great amount of my friends are Straight Edge and we don't separate when it comes to that. We've never been an Edge band, contrary to popular belief (laughter).

Hatebreed Guitar Tuning

Hatebreed does play in C, but not standard tuned. It's drop C. Wiki is full of shit. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.80.121.33 (talk) 02:45, 2 January 2007 (UTC).Reply

yup, its definitly dropped C.

Someone told me that hatebreed may be racist, and wants to know if its true

Racist!(?) why, coz they're all white with shaved heads? no. i can assure u they are definitly NOT racist. fuck stereotypes. as a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure jamey has participated in some underground NY hip hop groups, complete with latino/black members.

No, he probably saw the title of one of Hatebreed's songs as "Kill the Niggers" over limewire when in fact the real title of the song is "Smash Your Enemies". Most likely just some racist white trash shit head who tried to bring Hatebreed's fanbase down.

Emo?

edit

Need some sources as to why they are emo?

Sound more like moshcore to me.

Why is this question even being asked??? If you're too big of a Jackass to know the answer to that then that's pathetic, it's self explanatory.

i do believe that hatebreed is against every moral fiber of todays society, and they introduce such idealogies as paganism, human sacrifice, and religious desicration. they recently played in the "i hate jews and blacks" festival in north korea. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Guitarmaster12000 (talkcontribs) 22:58, 4 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hardcore Punk

edit

Hatebreed are not a hardcore punk band. If you think that then you seriously need to listen harder. I know they belong to a type of music that is often just branded "Hardcore" but please keep in mind that Hardcore on wikipedia redirects to Hardcore Punk. Hatebreed are widely accepted as a Moshcore/Beatdown Hardcore or simply just Metalcore band. so too avoid giving out false information. lets just leave it at that. thank you for reading. 172.214.9.213 22:54, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I definitely agree. Too slow for hardcore punk, and anyway they sound way more metal than punk. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.23.49.136 (talk) 13:54, 21 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

Is there any evidenca that this is true? Saint Edge 17:48, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

no, the lead singer likes hip-hop. they preach unity. and come from a hardcore background. if they did WHICH I DOUBT it was purely for money.

why does anybody give a crap what genre a band is......to be honest is there really any band out there that has only one sound? most bands have influences that come from all facets of music, so to argue about style or genre is a moot point....and to argue about it and call each other names is even more stupid........if it rocks and you like it, listen to it, otherwise shut up!!!! its the same crap with throwdown and a perfect murder. they both were "hardcore" bands that now have a more pantera-esque sound to them so people threw them under the bus and said they were posers. well i liked pantera and if a band comes out that rocks just as hard, who cares? im gonna jam them just as loud. Metalcore?

I honestly think this this is bogus. Trivium is metalcore. shadows fall. I do admit, the vocals are metalcore-ish, but the groove and breakdown style is totally different. at least put Hardcore back in the genre list.

Trivium and Shadows Fall play Melodic Metalcore a genre that has been popular since the 2000s--Rivet138 (talk) 15:05, 5 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I found a reliable source stating Hatebreed is hardcore. I tried to add it but it is all fucked up. Please do not remove metalcore, because someone already cited that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wick3dd (talkcontribs) 23:57, 27 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Alright, enough of this shit, lighter than metalcore, heavier than hardcore punk, right. Let's write both genres on the infobox. That's all. That moshcore thing doesn't exist. --Jpkmaster (talk) 18:41, 11 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Anyway you look at it, metalcore is a decendent of hardcore punk. Hardcore itself has always had bands that borrow metal elements. Just because there are subgenres such as "metalcore" or "moshcore" doesn't mean anyone has to deny the fact that structure wise, Hatebreed is very much a hardcore punk band. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.15.146.252 (talk) 05:02, 31 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

How about death metal? Musically, Hatebreed are closer to Obituary and early Six Feet Under than they are DRI or Suicidal Tendencies. 70.152.184.189 (talk) 16:13, 7 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

"blends crossover thrash with hardcore punk". wtf does that mean? hardcore punk is already part of the blend in crossover. it might as well say "blends crossover thrash with hardcore punk and thrash metal".

Genre

edit

There's been too many genre fights. Hatebreed are NOT hardcore, they're metalcore. Real hardcore: minor threat, bad brains, black flag, Madball, agnostic front, gallows, early AFI, death before dishonor, scream, etc

NOT: Earth Crisis, integrity, converge, hatebreed, bury your dead, Texas in July, parkway drive, I am war, biohazard, etc

And ALL the sources for the genre scream METALCORE. They combine hardcore with metal =metalcore

So thus, metalcore should it be 174.252.115.109 (talk) 01:59, 5 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps, but don't change a genre claiming consensus when you don't have it. Wait for other editors to respond and consider sourcing your proposed edit. 09:50, 6 July 2013 (UTC)

genre

edit

Hey kids...instead of constantly bickering and trying to pigeon hole a genre-bending band that has been around for 21 years and released 6+ albums into a single genre category...how about we put our thinking caps on like good little children and grant them an inclusive genre status that represents the full range of their sound by listing them as "hardcore punk", "crossover thrash", and "metalcore" all in one (because they are all correct)? How does that sound kids? Can we all wrap our collective minds around that brain buster?

Crossover thrash

edit

hey kids here is a negative review of one of their albums...but even the reviewer had sufficient musical literacy to describe them as a hardcore band that incorporated Slayer-style riffing. Now I know the phrase "crossover thrash" is not explicitly used, but lets put our thinking caps on again and try to understand that if a hardcore band utilizes the riffing style of one of the core/foundational thrash metal bands, then that makes them "crossover thrash". http://metalreviews.com/reviews/album/2408 Thrasher1998 (talk) 15:43, 29 November 2015‎ (UTC)Reply
