Removal of New York City from infobox and categories

edit

An editor reverted my removal of New York City from "birth place" in the infobox and the corresponding removal of Male actors from New York City from categories. The edit summary that accompanied the reversion said, "Sorry pal, Harry Semels was from New York. If everything is not right."

I based my removal on the following:

  • Infobox: MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE says, in part, ". . . the purpose of an infobox: to summarize (and not supplant) key facts that appear in the article (an article should remain complete with its summary infobox ignored, with exceptions noted below)."
  • Category: WP:CATVER says, in part, "Categorization of articles must be verifiable. It should be clear from verifiable information in the article why it was placed in each of its categories."

The article does not say where Semels was born, and it does not mention New York City. Therefore no justification exists for placing New York City in either the infobox or the list of categories.

I am again removing New York City from "birth place" in the infobox and Male actors from New York City from categories. If someone can provide a birthplace with a valid citation in the article, that will be a welcome addition. Eddie Blick (talk) 00:10, 24 May 2023 (UTC)Reply
