Wondering how to edit this U.S. County Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Counties standards might help.

highly opinionated

edit

The article seems VERY biased & highly opinionated. It needs serious re writing to be neutral. Teamgoon 09:49, 11 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

2nd largest?

edit

"A county now over 725,000 residents, Gwinnett County is the second largest county in Georgia, next to Fulton County, which encompasses Atlanta city."

I removed this statement. I have not seen any substantiation of this claim. The Atlanta Regional Commission estimates still have DeKalb County ahead of Gwinnett County by 6,600 residents (700,500 to 693,900) as of 2005. [1]

So until there is a clear consensus, please refrain from cheerleading Gwinnett into second place. Onyourside 10:59, 4 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

-According to the US Census Quickfacts Data, Gwinnett had an estimated population of 700,794 while Dekalb was only had 675,725 residents as of 2004... [2] and [3] Also, Gwinnett county's own website gives the population as 700,794 siting 'Gwinnett County Forecasting and Research Division and U.S. Census Bureau, 2005' [4]

Yep go to www.census.gov

Then go to the Factfinder. Here's the details of the 2004 census: Total population

Fulton County: 782,858
Gwinnett County: 694,024 Gwinnett
Dekalb Co.: 660,714 Dekalb
Cobb Co.: 644,798

I was sure I saw 700k somewhere; it is 2006 (2 years after that data) so I'm pretty sure we're over 700k; nonetheless, we're still second after Fulton and before Dekalb. Also according to your statement, the proof you have is an estimate. I used the official census to get the details.--Onejsin 04:46, 13 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

I didn't see any in depth history here. What counties was it former of, who founded and when, etc. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.24.73.188 (talk) 21:42, 7 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Re-write

edit

Article highly biased; removed several which and also wordings. Ncsr11 (talk) 20:44, 17 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

The article is far less opinionated after re-write. Ncsr11 (talk) 15:10, 12 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

As of 2019, Gwinnett is the 2nd largest county in Georgia by population and poised to surpass Fulton within the next 20 years. gujamin (talk) 17:24, 23 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Commute time

edit

The article currently reads

The average commute time is 30.8 minutes, ranking it the highest in the metropolitan Atlanta area

The meaning of this "ranking" is ambiguous, in my view. Does this mean it is the longest commute in Atlanta, or the best or what? Certainly if it is the "longest", it would be better to state that than to give it the appearance that it has some wonderful #1 ranking. 98.82.84.209 (talk) 14:24, 21 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Fine, well, it's unacceptable, and no one has an explanation, so I'm deleting it. 98.82.84.209 (talk) 16:57, 23 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Seems pretty clear that it is the longest. Meters (talk) 04:35, 24 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Well, you can say it's clear, but it obviously wasn't clear to at least one person. What at least the two of us can agree on is that the current version that you have is more clear.
By the way, do we have a source on that? I'm not familiar with the "2003" census? May have to delete it, anyway. 98.82.84.209 (talk) 11:41, 24 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
I wouldn't argue against deleting it on the basis of no reliable source. For that matter, it is out of date too. Have at it. Meters (talk) 23:19, 24 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
Never mind. I self reverted. Meters (talk) 23:23, 24 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Merge?

edit

I propose that Type of Government and Elections in Gwinnett County, Georgia be merged into this article as the information can be easily covered in this article. - Presidentman talk · contribs Random Picture of the Day (Talkback) 19:57, 3 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

I agree. Meters (talk) 17:26, 4 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Historic Courthouse Photo currently displayed

edit

This section is being added by the Gwinnett County Government. We are trying to add a new photo to replace the Historic Courthouse photo. We tried to add the new photo yesterday, but it was reverted by another user. The current photo is of an historic courthouse that is only used as an event venue now. The new courthouse (the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center) at 75 Langley Drive has been the official courthouse since 1988. We will be happy to find another photo that does not contain people, but we would like to have the current official courthouse of the county shown, and not the historic courthouse on the Lawrenceville town square.
