editAccording to Maya Deren in her book Divine_Horsemen:_The_Living_Gods_of_Haiti (see References) Guinee is the "legendary place of racial origin". It is also referenced as the "Island Below the Sea" where the Loa have their permanent residence, and to it the souls of men return.
I have also read of Ife being the place of origin.
