Glide ratio
editIs that figure of 5.2 rally right, even though it's what the Russian sorce (citable?) says? Gunston's book on Russian aircraft (Gunston, Bill (1995). The Osprey Encyclopedia of Russian Aircraft 1875-1995. London: Osprey (Reed Consumer Books Ltd). p. 82. ISBN 1-85532-405-9.), in agreement on most of the specifications, has 19.2! Both sources are agreed on the "cruise"/"normal" speed 40.6 m/s) and the (minimum) rate of sink (2.2 m/s) and the ratio of these is 18.5 = glide angle. You might fret a little about differences between speeds for minimum sink and for best glide ratio but, though the latter is always bigger, it is typically only so by around 15%. Surely the brick-like 5.2 is wrong? Be interesting to know the glide ratio (L/D) for other big gliders like the Horsa but these seem hard to find.TSRL (talk) 20:56, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
