Edits to this page by non-native English speakers
editI have been encountering this for a while now on many different Wikipedia pages regarding German-speaking Europe. There are multiple edits being made that linguistically don't make any sense (especially the "Slovenes and Graz" section of this particular entry) in the English language. I know there are many knowledgeable people contributing to Wikipedia, but please do not edit pages in other languages without being absolutely sure it makes sense or you have had someone proofread your changes. I have seen Wikipedia pages that were perfectly adequate only to be edited by someone who thinks they are contributing to the page, but are instead making it unreadable. Please do not make changes to this page or any others if your grasp of English is not at a native or near-native level. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mweinshel (talk • contribs) 11:17, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
Hungarian
editWhy? The EB gives the Slovenian name and the 'Bohemian' (i.e., Czech) name because of their etymological importance, but the city was never so much as held by Hungary. Why is their misspelling of the local name any more important than, e.g., its Italian or Turkish form? — LlywelynII 15:26, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

Number of universities
editUntil recently, the article claimed that Graz would have six universities. It seems that previous editors have counted the Fachhochschule Joanneum and Campus 02 Fachhochschule der Wirtschaft as universities. These institutions call themselves Universities of Applied Sciences, but according to the instructions in WikiProject Austria, schools that don't confer doctorates should be termed colleges or schools. So four universities remain: the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, the Medical University of Graz, Graz University of Technology and the University of Graz. --K1812 (talk) 08:07, 23 November 2019 (UTC)
Education
edit"Graz has a long tradition as a seat of higher education", so why is there mention of education in the body nor info on its universities? Seven Pandas (talk) 23:41, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
Mayor
editThere is a new mayor in town. A communist one. https://www.teletrader.com/communist-party-wins-major-upset-in-graz-elections/news/details/56426871 RAMSES$44932 (talk) 20:32, 26 September 2021 (UTC)
Slovenes in Graz
edit@Steiermärker: this is the place to make your case for removing the content. Fram, you could also start it off if you'd like although I'd say the burden isn't on you. -- Fyrael (talk) 21:49, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks again, could I just remove the Slovene name from the info box though? It had already been removed, before I deleted the paragraph about Slovenes and Graz. Steiermärker (talk) 23:49, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- The reason why I think the dedicated section on Slovenes and Graz should still be removed is that Slovenes only ever constituted a tiny minority in the city. Ljubljana or Laibach had a far higher percentage of Germans and was shaped much more significantly by German culture than Graz ever was by the Slovene, yet has no such section and it doesn't need to, but neither does Graz. The section and especially the wording about it remaining "permanently" important for Slovenes suggests clear political motives. Even the furthest and most radical reaches of Slovene nationalism, such as Kozler's map of the Slovene lands, whiles including all of Carinthia, did not include Graz, only extending as far North as the village of Wildon, because even to him it was obvious that Slovenes had nothing on Graz, which alone should prove the point. Population figures
edit@Steiermärker: This is the same issue we had over at de:Diskussion:Graz#Bevölkerung, though you opted not to participate in the discussion. At least in Austria and Germany, a cities population usually only refers to Hauptwohnsitze. See also Vienna, Linz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Klagenfurt, etc. I was going to add List of cities in Austria to this, but you've made the same mistake over there. MaligneRange (talk) 16:32, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
- Fair enough, my mistake. Best, Steiermärker Steiermärker (talk) 13:06, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you. MaligneRange (talk) 13:12, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- And I should have participated in the discussion on the German wiki, as I usually do, I don't know why I didn't, sorry. Steiermärker (talk) 13:17, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you. MaligneRange (talk) 13:12, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
