Note: Although this article was previously subject to AfD that reached no consensus, the article has been entirely rewritten since that time. There were good objections to the old article that were raised during the AfD, but the original reasons for the AfD are no longer valid. At the time of the last nomination, the article looked like this.
Archive 1
editI archived the talk page in order to remove redundant and pointless discussions made during the first two quarters of 2006. Trust me when I say it says nothing interesting: it's basically quarrel over which games should be included, how much, and a lot of WP:POINTs. Jobjörn (Talk ° contribs) 02:47, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Original research
editWell, even though my AfD failed to reach a consensus, it's quite clear that it needs a LOT of improvement. I took the first steps. Requests for references have now been put into the article after virtually EVERY sentence, and even though I've looked I haven't found any source that would pass WP:RS. If it remains in this state for too long; I will simply nominate it again. Jobjörn (Talk ° contribs) 02:47, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Stubified
edit- I'm stubifying the article. The topic is valid, but I think it will need a rewrite. Give it a couple months to see what people can contribute. Tarinth 13:32, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- Update -- I've added a history and references section, and added one of the earlier games for this category. I'll add more when I can spend some more time with it.
Question
editWhy are the 80soft (www.80soft.com) games missing? They're by far the single biggest publisher (in number of titles) of political sims, but they are not even mentioned in the article. While dumbed-down crap like the Political Machine, is.
You can also add Hidden Agenda, a freeware game from the mid 90s which was a big influence to the list.
Would the game Call of Duty 4 work on this page, seeing as it is about a radical political movement shown through a militaristic view? ABK20062 (talk) 12:57, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
- Not a simulation game, no. 98.168.204.179 (talk) 03:31, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
To-do List
edit(Feel free to add things here)
- Identify more geopolitical games
- Find out about some of the more recent products,
including Political Machines (described by Wired: http://www.wired.com/news/games/0,2101,64625,00.html ) - Find out if there are any games worthy of inclusion that focus on political campaigns, elections or administration in countries other than the United States
Locate some screenshots or promotional art for a couple of the games and add to the article
- Hey I once had this game on PS2 were you took control of a communist party and had to bring a communist party to power that I have been searching for on the internet as I can't remeber the name! I sold it beacuse I was too young for it and didnt get the concept but I can't for the life of me remeber the name! I will post if I do. Spose I'm just letting you know there are other political based games out there!
online nation simulation games
editThis article should probably discuss the fairly recent emergence of online nation simulation games like NationStates and CyberNations. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 66.248.222.34 (talk) 18:59, 30 March 2007 (UTC).

Inquire about merger
editThere seems to be much overlap between this genre and Grand strategy game (especially the categories). I am wondering if it would be appropriate to merge that article (or category) with this one. SharkD 20:18, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
- I think it is a related category of game but not exactly the same. A merger into Grand strategy game doesn't seem appropriate, considering this is considered a Good Article. Tarinth 13:08, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah.. rather different. They're fundamentally different genres. 98.168.204.179 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 03:29, 2 May 2009 (UTC).

Fair use rationale for Image:BalanceOfPower.png
editImage:BalanceOfPower.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Political game redirected here
editIt was a brief mention of the subject that this article already covered in more detail. You might want to check that article's previous state to see if there's something this one could use. --Kizor (talk) 17:13, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
Nationsims
editI visited this page looking for info on online forum games like 'Superpower 2' and 'Nations'. There used to be a page just for them, but 'nationsim' now just redirects here. What has happened?? Urpunkt (talk) 13:04, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
Ars Regendi
editWHEN Ars Regendi gets removed haphazardly then OTHER external links to less important games HAVE to get removed too! Malone70 (talk) 09:31, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
- WP:GOFISHING. If other links are failing WP:EL guidelines, then yes, please help out by removing them. --McGeddon (talk) 09:58, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
- Please let us discuss: as JamesBWatson wrote to me, that "objective prose about products or services is acceptable", I'd like to know, how I could mention (http://www.ars-regendi.com Ars Regendi) - which is for sure one of the best examples for a government simulation game - without getting edited. Please think about the following: you strengthen big business companies with your noteability policy. Because a site only gets an article in big media, when it became very big - usually by advertising. Without the budget for advertising no site will get then an article even here. Completely despite of its usefulness for the readers of the Wikipedia. Malone70 (talk) 10:41, 22 April 2010 (UTC)
- If it's really "one of the best examples" of the genre, it shouldn't be hard to find some coverage of it in the games press. We just need a reliable source before writing about something in Wikipedia. Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia that writes about subjects citing notable examples to aid the reader's understanding; it isn't trying to be an exhaustive directory of web games, and would look very different if it was. --McGeddon (talk) 07:08, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Section "List of competitions and past winners"
editThis section (can be seen here[1]) is not a list of competitions. It just covers one (competition? Wargame?) and quotes the add copy from its website (reads like one big long advertisement). Is this notable? Anyone care to add a version that is not promotional with third party references? Noaccountaccount (talk) 17:42, 15 November 2011 (UTC)
SimCity Mayor?
edit"the SimCity series of games developed and published by Maxis simulates the experience of being a mayor"
Yeah, right. More like a city planner slash business baron. DAVilla (talk) 05:29, 13 April 2013 (UTC)
Chronology of this genre?
editOther genres have this section. 194.146.217.38 (talk) 09:34, 20 August 2014 (UTC)
Link to Grand Strategy games list was removed, some games listed in examples are listed in that link.
Sid Meier's Civilization Games
editDo Sid Meier's Civilization games count as political simulation? There is a lot of diplomacy and some city planning. Compassionate727 (talk) 12:30, 18 May 2015 (UTC)

Geopolitics Simulator / Realpolitiks
editThere is nothing about Geopolitical Simulator series by Eversim, although complexity of it is very high.
Can be Realpolitiks by Jujube mentioned here? Its very stramlined, in fact its bit arcadeish. 37.8.231.182 (talk) 14:02, 4 March 2017 (UTC)
We need new page
editThere is a game called particracy classic ,i think it is popular enought to add.If this is not popular enough,it should be more popular since Wouter Lievens(its single developer and founder) is developing new ,better version called simply Particracy . Personally i can't wait for federalism and multiple worlds! — Preceding unsigned comment added by FutureImperatorofEntireWorld (talk • contribs) 19:14, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
