interpretation of WP:MOSDAB

edit

The relevant section on WP:MOSDAB#Linking to a primary topic seems pretty clear. As this page has (disambiguation) in the title it explicitly states that the primary topic should be listed separately from the other items. Tassedethe (talk) 12:42, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry, I take that not to be bearing to entries of persons. Is John Adams (disambiguation) for instance incorrect in your view? MURGH disc. 13:17, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I do take it to apply to people, mainly as the section further down on people doesn't explicitly overrule it. So I would regard John Adams as incorrect, But a quick look at couple of presidents shows its not hard and fast, George Washington (disambiguation) is like Adams, but Thomas Jefferson (disambiguation) and James Madison (disambiguation) have the primary topic separated. Perhaps it's worth refering it to WT:MOSDAB or WT:WPDAB to get their opinion? Tassedethe (talk) 13:45, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I wouldn't mind a clear, easily referenced guideline to go by on this. Do you mind doing the asking? MURGH disc. 15:44, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
I put the question at Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style_(disambiguation_pages)#Style of Someone Name (disambiguation) pages. I hope summarised your view fairly. Tassedethe (talk) 16:06, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

As per the discussion at Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style_(disambiguation_pages)#Style of Someone Name (disambiguation) pages I have changed this page to come in line with mos:dab. If others feel that there should be no primary topic then George McManus should be moved to, say, George McManus (cartoonist) and the dab page should take its place at George McManus. I hope this helps. Abtract (talk) 21:11, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Allright. Thanks for the process and clarification. It will always be subject to discussions about primary topics then, people no differently. Good to know. MURGH disc. 21:28, 7 August 2008 (UTC)Reply
