Are you really sure about Clinton's birth date? Some say he was born not 1940 but rather 1942 or 1941!—Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.247.89.70 (talk) 15:34, 31 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Birth record says 1941. Questors 18:20, 30 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I believe he also appeared in the film the breaks.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Obidikeeze (talkcontribs) 17:59, 8 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Birth date

edit

Well, if his birth record says what it says, why don't change the obvious wrong information given in the article then?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.180.56.60 (talk) 14:37, 5 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Should info about his demo tape done with Lady Miss Kier be put in somewhere?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.168.56.37 (talk) 09:34, 6 April 2006 (UTC)Reply

Dear God, thank you for George Clinton, the funk musician. Not just a funk musician; he's THE funk musician.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.15.65.104 (talk) 02:45, 15 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Proposed merger

edit

In regards to the proposal to merger P-Funk Mothership with this article, I strongly support the move. I feel the Mothership article lacks notability. Chuchunezumi 19:16, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I disagree. The Mothership was a signature bit of Parliament stagecraft specifically and a big part of the P-Funk mythology generally, so if if is going to be merged it should be with one of those articles, not George Clinton's. (Full disclosure: I just added this page to the new Category:P-Funk mythology.) InnocuousPseudonym 08:07, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I disagree too, they should remain separate.Zisimos 10:50, 9 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Mathematics BA Urban Legend

GTA radio-host

edit

Shouldn't it be mentioned that he provides the voice for a fictional radio host in the GTA San Andreas game? Funkynusayri 14:43, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why not also discuss Parliament Funkadelic?

edit
This article focuses on Clinton's solo efforts after 1981.

Why? That doesn't make any sense - the article is "George Clinton (musician)", not "Solo efforts of George Clinton (musician) after 1981". It should go into detail about Parliament Funkadelic. Tempshill (talk) 03:45, 16 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

"This article is about Clinton's solo career after 1981. For more on his bands prior to that year, see Parliament-Funkadelic."

I am really confused by this. I would think that this article, like most articles about people, would be primarily a biography. If there is enough material (there is, but I recognize that articles take time to create and expand) then there would be a separate article encompassing his entire (solo and P-Funk) musical career, and another focusing on the history of P-Funk. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.125.2.104 (talk) 14:11, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

walk the dinosaur

edit

so george did the walk the dinosaur song from the super mario bros movie, but he also released a single with remixes of that song for the movie should that be mentioned? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mamaluigibob (talkcontribs) 06:40, 2 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Needs Cleanup

edit

I tagged this as needing cleanup. The bulk of the article reads like random trivia and has very little "flow" (particularly the post-1990 section). I'd work it myself but I don't know the subject very well and I don't have the time to dedicate to it. -- Shan —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.151.155.211 (talk) 06:07, 6 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Done. You're right about the post-1990 section. --DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 20:28, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
In the process I removed the following statement, which seems relevant but I'm not sure where it fits in historically. Clinton allows audience members to tape his live performances for private, non-commercial use only (source:GeorgeClinton.com :: Taping Policy) --DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 20:52, 13 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Parliament/Funkadelic samples

edit

in the article it says rappers started sampling Parliament/Funkadelic in the 90's. This is not true. They actually started sampling Parliament/Funkadelic in the 80's along with James Brown & by the time the 90's rolled around, using samples by Parliament/Funkadelic or James Brown was considered cliche. robfromvan 22:28, 26 June 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Robfromvan (talkcontribs)

The President of the United Funk of Funkadelica

edit

Why don't we include this among his titles in the lead? I think it would provide humor.Hoops gza (talk) 19:12, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

It is an official title, after all. Kim Jong II has like 70 official titles and he doesn't even release material outside of his country.Hoops gza (talk) 19:15, 5 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Management

edit

I think it would be appropriate to discuss GC's management of the Parliament/Funkadelic empire. It is common knowledge (and is mentioned in both the Parliament and Funkadelic articles) that members of his bands throughout the years quit because of "financial concerns" i.e. George was notorious for not paying his bands and not giving songwriting credits/royalties to the musicians that wrote his songs.—Preceding unsigned comment added by DFS (talkcontribs) 10:45, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

This seems especially lacking following the recent (May 2022) lawsuit by Bernie Worrell's widow. I am sure there are other articles with more details. Possibly other lawsuits. JoelSherrill (talk) 21:12, 27 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

George Clinton discography page?

edit

Should George Clinton have a separate discography page, since it is getting kind of long?--Jax 0677 (talk) 01:47, 8 October 2012 (UTC)Reply

Dope Dogs

The page for this album says it was released in 1994 (Japan) and 1995 (U.S.). Other sources agree. 217.38.185.137 (talk) 09:07, 16 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

Inconsistent solo career dates

edit

" launched a solo career in 1981. " " Clinton's efforts as a solo artist began in 1982. " These can't both be true, can they?Fconaway (talk) 17:54, 30 November 2015 (UTC)Reply

George Clinton (musician)George Clinton (funk musician) – The current title fails to disambiguate him properly per WP:INCDAB, as there are three musicians called George Clinton. Adding the type of music he is known for will help resolve the ambiguity; also open to any other suggestions.

Note: He does get the most pageviews, but I would not support a move to the base title under WP:PTOPIC due to the existence of George Clinton (vice president). For a guy that's been dead for 200 years, it's pretty impressive that he can get around half the hits of a popular musical artist. In any case I don't see the case for arguing that the funk musician has substantially more long-term significance than a founding father. King of 22:14, 20 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

George Clinton (funk musician)George Clinton (musician) - Between Feb 2023 and Jan 2024, 565,163 people viewed either this page, George S. Clinton, or George Clinton (clarinettist). Of these views, 515,164 (roughly 91.15%) came from this page. There is therefore no reason to specify that this guy is a funk musician. It is already established that whenever people look up George Clinton on this site, it either for him, or occasionally the Vice-President of the United States.
