His politics
editI've been watching some of Autry's movies on Comcast. In a couple of them leftist revolutionaries are the bad guys, yet in this article I read he recorded a pro-labor song and some of the cowboy code sounds rather liberal. Does anyone know something more about this topic? CalSteven (talk) 02:26, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
I am not certain about his politics. There is a 2013 article from Huffington Post, called Was Gene Autry a Radical? which examines his shifting political beliefs in detail. He apparently had affiliations with both Democratic and Republican political leaders, some of them with very different ideas.:
"Don Cusic, author of Gene Autry: His Life and Career, says that Autry grew up admiring Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman. In mid-life he became more conservative and supported Dwight D. Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, Barry Goldwater, and Ronald Reagan. Even so, he remained a registered Democrat, but called himself an “independent.” "Dimadick (talk) 16:32, 16 May 2017 (UTC)
- In his 1978 autobiography, Autry describes himself as "kind of a New Deal c
- cow" and "a Democrat". And growing up in Democratic Party circles (my grandfather worked in the FDR and Truman administrations), I was always told Autry was a stalwart and reliable Democrat.boy 2601:1C2:100:FC0:B1A8:80C7:A943:5D2E (talk) 08:38, 26 July 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. That makes sense to me. CalSteven (talk) 17:36, 19 June 2017 (UTC)
TNN
editDuring the 1980’s, Autry hosted a show on The Nashville Network on Sundays, which showed his movies. I checked the article and didn’t see a reference to it. Since TNN is defunct, it may be difficult to come up with anything substantive, but it would add a little more info to the article if anyone can dig it up. /johnfromwv 75.108.209.204 (talk) 23:33, 2 October 2023 (UTC)
Be Honest With Me
editUser:Tillywilly17/Be Honest with Me
I wrote an article on Gene Autry song from 1941. I don't believe I have the power to move it into the main directory. Can an admin please help me out? Note: it started out as a translation, but bears no resemblance to the original Tillywilly17 (talk) 01:08, 10 November 2023 (UTC)
