Requested move 15 February 2018

edit
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: move Game Boy line to Game Boy family, per the discussion below. This also creates consistency among Game Boy family, Nintendo DS family, and Nintendo 3DS family. It appears there is some support for moving all three pages to "product line" titles, but particularly since the 3DS article was not included/notified as part of this request, I'd suggest doing that as part of a new move request if necessary. – The words "line" and "family" do not seem to be part of any official name to describe the series of handheld consoles which these articles describe. In fact, amending any word to their titles seem to not be proper. I'm proposing that these to articles move to a title with a consistent/same disambiguator (such as "(brand)" or "(series)") as there seems to be no natural disambiguation title option for either of these other than moving them to their ambiguous titles ... which are currently occupied by articles representing the first-released consoles in their series. Is consensus to rename 'Game Boy line' to 'Game Boy family'? If not, please detail concerns/args below. ~ P*h3i (talk to me) 02:47, 16 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

If no one else responds below I can confirm that consensus has been reached and I'll initiate the move. ~ P*h3i (talk to me) 13:01, 18 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
No opposition to "family" in the place of "line". -- ferret (talk) 13:51, 18 February 2018 (UTC)Reply
A bit early to declare that consensus has been reached, particularly since you have voiced a specific opinion here. These things normally run for a week or so and are closed by an uninvolved editor. Dekimasuよ! 06:36, 19 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Game Boy (sub) families

edit

Clarification about GB (sub) "families":

  • "Families" are considered a set of devices with a fairly amount of common characteristics and belonging to the same console generation, rather than being distributed on a world geography.
  • They are NOT considered revisions of the boards or devices as they were manufactured and distributed at the same time. That means those device status were "in production" at the same time (i.e. you could buy two different devices of the same family in the stores)

So far there are 3 different (sub) families:

I agree with that assessment. Each represents a break in hardware compatibility. GBC games can't be played on an original Game Boy, and GBA games can't be played on a GBC. oknazevad (talk) 22:34, 2 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Custom Game Boy in Image

edit

The Image at the top of the page with different models from left to right has an inaccurate depiction of the black Play-It-Loud DMG Game Boy. The buttons and screen lens bezel are the wrong color--this is an image of a device that was repaired/customized, not a black Play-It-Loud as shipped from Nintendo.

I suggest replacing the image or changing the description to reflect this.

Mrrmv (talk) 16:40, 20 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

I'd just crop it out. The Play-it-Loud models have zero differences from the original other than casing colors, and don't need to be represented in the lead image anymore than the various casing colors of subsequent models. oknazevad (talk) 22:34, 2 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Chart order

edit

Shouldn't the chart in the Comparison section be organized in a much more logical earliest-to-latest left-to-right fashion? I mean, English is written left-to-right, so it would be expected to see the earliest thing first when reading. oknazevad (talk) 22:34, 2 October 2020 (UTC)Reply
