– After seeing BilCat's comment (above), I have proposed this RM, and I want to hear from other contributors. I don't really understand if this is really the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, given the other uses in the disambiguation page. Neel.arunabh (talk) 16:16, 12 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

Primary topic

edit
First, have you read and understood WP:PRIMARYTOPIC? If you haven't, then trying to explain it will just be reinventing the wheel. - BilCat (talk) 00:41, 20 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I see that. But I want to know how that applies to the fuel pump for engines. Neel.arunabh (talk) 01:20, 20 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Why is the the fuel pump for engines more notable than the Fuel pump for the gas station? Neel.arunabh (talk) 04:10, 20 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
As I was the closer, I did a Google search. Fuel pump is mostly refer "fuel pump for engines" whereas fuel dispenser refers to "Fuel pump for the gas station". Clearly, not the same thing. — YoungForever(talk) 06:33, 20 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Also look at all the pages under the Category:Disambiguation pages, some of them have WP:PRIMARYTOPICS, some of them do not. Take the case of Affirmation. There there is no WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Neel.arunabh (talkcontribs) 17:16, 20 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
In the English speaking world, we don't really refer "fuel pump" for the gas station, we call it commonly as "gas pump" or "petrol pump". I have never heard anyone refer it as "fuel pump". — YoungForever(talk) 19:12, 20 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
I have to place myself in the same situation as editor Neel.arunabh. In the first place, the pumps at gas stations are rarely called "fuel dispensers", so either "gas pump" or "fuel pump" (I frequently hear them called both) is the common name. Also, I remain unconvinced that this article's subject is the primary topic. Where is the evidence for this assertion? You won't find it in page views or long-term significance, will you? Where then? "Fuel dispenser" probably isn't the most common name, but we're basically stuck with that as the article title, as the most common names ("gas pump" and "petrol pump") have strong regional variation. And we can't favor one over the other. Rreagan007 (talk) 20:26, 21 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
Concur. Also, that article's title is better discussed on its own talk page. - BilCat (talk) 20:34, 21 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

This is only a suggested edit, because I want some second opinions before I go swapping the image out.

Current is on top, suggested replacement is below. Braden (talk) 20:36, 7 September 2021 (UTC)Reply

I don't think that's how the valve in the original diagram works. Remember, this is a slice though, but the inflow and outflow in your diagram would mix behind the valve. Timtjtim (talk) 13:25, 13 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
