Vital dates
editHere and elsewhere online it's asserted he was born on 12 January 1880, and died on 14 July 1953, 2 days later than we say. What explains these discrepancies? -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 04:48, 27 October 2021 (UTC)

Requested move 6 December 2022
edit- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Moved to Frank Fahy (politician), with dab page remaining at the base title. No such user (talk) 14:51, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
– Of the three people listed at Frank Fahy, the Ceann Comhairle is the only one named as such in the body of the page and on the external links. The page Frank Fahy was previously used for that now at Francis Arthur Fahy, but clicking through the external links on Francis Arthur Fahy show that he is in fact named as Francis, rather than Frank. Therefore, the Ceann Comhairle is sufficiently a primary topic for Frank Fahy. The disambiguation list would then be moved to Frank Fahy (disambiguation). A Google search for "Frank Fahy" didn't show Francis Arthur Fahy on the first three pages of results, but a few to the Ceann Comhairle. Iveagh Gardens (talk) 10:58, 6 December 2022 (UTC)— Added move of associated dab. Rotideypoc41352 (talk · contribs) 17:25, 10 December 2022 (UTC)
- Comment, it appears that the WP:COMMONNAME of Francis Arthur Fahy is Frank Fahy, if that's the case then that should be moved to Frank Fahy (musician) or whatever, and DAB remaining at base name.--Ortizesp (talk) 18:07, 6 December 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not sure about that. I didn't go into the detail, as it's not the focus of this proposal, but of the two external links on the musician's page, both the Amazon link and the Kinvara link name him as Francis. Iveagh Gardens (talk) 09:50, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
- Agree move to Frank Fahy. Spleodrach (talk) 01:06, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose. The politician's historical renown does not overshadow the combined notability of the physicist and the poet, each of whom was also known as "Frank Fahy". —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 10:09, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
- Comment But was the poet known as Frank Fahy? I might have missed it, but the sources indicate he was Francis. Iveagh Gardens (talk) 11:08, 8 December 2022 (UTC)
- The current main title header for the article delineating the eldest among the three men listed upon the Frank Fahy disambiguation page is Frank Fahy (songwriter). The lede sentence specifies his name as Francis Arthur Fahy (29 September 1854 – 1935) and, googling "Frank Fahy Irish songwriter" confirms that he was indeed also known as "Frank".
- The current header for the younger man is Frank Fahy (Ceann Comhairle)/Frank Fahy (politician) and his lede sentence specifies Francis Patrick Fahy (23 May 1879 – 12 July 1953).
- The current header for the youngest among the three is Frank Fahy (physicist) and his lede specifies Edward Francis Fahy (8 June 1922 – 24 June 2005). Thus, each of the three men has been known as "Frank" as well as "Francis" and there is no indication that one of them is preeminent above the other two to such a degree that he would be an obvious WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 19:27, 11 December 2022 (UTC)
- Comment. Neutral on primary topic status, but if not the article should be moved to Frank Fahy (politician). Using his exact post is overly specific given there's only one politician by this name. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:55, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
- Comment. While I oppose (per my above vote) the positioning of Frank Fahy (Ceann Comhairle) as the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, I would certainly support the revised parenthetical qualifier Frank Fahy (Ceann Comhairle) → Frank Fahy (politician) per Necrothesp. The entries for Fahy's predecessor Michael Hayes (politician) as well as for his successors, such as Seán Treacy (politician) or John O'Connell (Dublin politician) have used "(politician)". —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 17:10, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
- Note, that there is a Frank Fahey (politician) as well. Spleodrach (talk) 21:02, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
- The expectation in such cases is that users who type "Frank Fahy" will see [under "See also"] Frank Fahey (disambiguation) and those who type "Frank Fahey" will see [under "See also"] Frank Fahy (disambiguation), thus enabling the consultation of both dab pages and distinguishing one politician from the other. —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 21:52, 7 December 2022 (UTC)
- I've added a note at Frank Fahey (politician). Whatever our conclusion here, I could reasonably imagine someone misspelling the Ceann Comhairle's name and thinking that link referred to him. Iveagh Gardens (talk) 11:08, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

- Move to Frank Fahy (politician), but do not make primary topic per the above rationales - he is not more likely to be searched for than all other entries combined. Also, there is no need to disambiguate against Frank Fahey (politician); that's more than enough WP:SMALLDETAILS and hatnotes is fine to differentiate. — Amakuru (talk) 12:44, 19 December 2022 (UTC)
- Comment: I could support a move to Frank Fahy (politician), and there seems to be a consensus for that, and stats do show that he is not the overwhelming primary topic: a page view count for the pages shows 7,405 for the politician, 6,017 for the songwriter, and 2,167 for the physicist. However, I do maintain that the extent to which the songwriter is known as Frank is overestimated in this discussion, for reasons I've detailed at Talk:Frank Fahy (songwriter). -Iveagh Gardens (talk) 15:01, 20 December 2022 (UTC)
