editThis article is badly written. Whoever wrote it, I'm sorry but there are many English mistakes. The structure itself is pretty good, so I have limited myself to correcting some errors. Davi
ETYMOLOGY?
editIts name was changed from "Nossa Senhora do Desterro" to Florianopolis as a hommage to Marechal Floriano Peixoto, the second president of Brazil.
image
editthe image wich is written in the article "floripa's beach" in the real true is the "lagoa da conceição" or conceição lake, wich is not ocean, and the image is showing just a less deep part of the lake, not a real beach —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.6.54.198 (talk) 22:43, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
German influence
editThere is also written in the article, that floripa was basically colonized by azoreans, italians, germans and of course other portuguese people. I lived in Floripa quite some time and I think there isnt any german influence besides some immigrants who openend a restaurant or so. compared to other south brazilian states, there is actually no influence, so you maybe could delete that. (i am german myself and i would have liked that this beautiful island was kind of discovered by my people, but it's just not true!) thanks and beijo —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.226.143.14 (talk) 21:19, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

- Is there a source for saying it has german influence? I don't think so. Besides (I love doing this), please see Wikipedia:Ignore_all_rules. -- User:VdSV9 (not signed in) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.217.94.150 (talk) 11:04, 28 December 2008 (UTC)
twin cities
editWe need a source for those, the article says Florianopolis is twined by san diego and los angeles, but on those cities' articles it doesnt say anything about Fpolis. I couldnt find any information at all on the twin cities site, so I'm just removing those. Could someone add Triathlon to the sports info? It has a good number of teams and athletes, as Florianópolis hosts the only Ironman Triathlon in South America, as seen on http://www.ironmanbrasil.com.br —Preceding unsigned comment added by 189.4.69.69 (talk) 19:11, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Notable people
editAs a native who is up to date with the local media, I have noticed there are quite a few persons in the list who are not notable by any stretch. Considering wikipedia's criteria for insertion of biographies, I think it would be a good start to remove people from this list who don't have an article of their own, or perhaps create an article for them and see if someone edits those articles in a period of, say, 6 months.
Mobility index
editThe comment in the opening paragraph about the mobility index and what the officials do about it is not suitable for an encyclopedia article. Assuming this is true, it nevertheless cannot be in the first paragraph, which serves as an introduction. And I am not sure it should be in this article at all! Also, the description of the index ("a calculation created by a brazillian university professor") is not documented. I suggest a concerned editor remove this remark.132.66.40.82 (talk) 09:17, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
Spanish Settlement
editAccording to the Santa Catarina (state) page "European settlement began with the Spanish settlement of Santa Catarina island in 1542. The Portuguese took control in 1675" (unreferenced). Can someone with details add something here on this? Davidships (talk) 08:19, 28 June 2011 (UTC)
sailing
editThe article mentions surfing but Florianopolis also seems to be a centre for sailing. There is a Facebook page dedicated to the sailing community and an Extreme Sailing Series was held there in 2013. 64.228.209.137 (talk) 02:20, 26 November 2022 (UTC)
