The result of the move request was: move to Fifteen-inch gauge railway; no consensus on move to 15-inch gauge railway. -- tariqabjotu 23:59, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
Fifteen inch gauge railway → 15 inch gauge railway – Sources are spare but commonly use numerals, even for numbers less than ten.[1] It might also be helpful to hyphenate "15-inch". See also: WP:ORDINAL. Marcus Qwertyus (talk) 20:43, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- strong oppose The first link of your own Google search is to probably the second most important source on this topic, Sir Arthur Heywood and the Fifteen Inch Gauge Railway. The title's a bit of a hint there. The most important source, Heywood's own book, uses "Fifteen inch". Van Zeller's more recent book uses "fifteen inch". Contemporary railways uniformly use fifteen inch rather than 15. Andy Dingley (talk) 21:06, 30 November 2012 (UTC)
- The hyphen should be added regardless, per MOS:HYPHEN. Sources that omit it are committing an error that we shouldn't propagate. --BDD (talk) 20:51, 1 December 2012 (UTC)
- Add the hyphen. Neutral on Fifteen versus 15, as both are quite common in sources. Dicklyon (talk) 07:37, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
- If the hyphen is so essential, why is it (IMHO, correctly) omitted from the other railway gauge articles?
- This also sounds far too much like a false Wikiconsistency (maybe WP:OR), where a minor stylistic guide at WP is being seen as over-riding WP:RS. Andy Dingley (talk) 11:58, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
- See WP:SSF, specifically the "reliable sources style fallacy." Hyphens are frequently misused in the English language, but that doesn't mean we need to propagate errors. --BDD (talk) 18:45, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

The result of the move request was: moved. No prejudice against a new blanket discussion. Jenks24 (talk) 13:15, 25 June 2014 (UTC)
15 in gauge railways → Fifteen inch gauge railway – rv undiscussed rename, opposed last time it was raised. Also use a singular form, per MOS Andy Dingley (talk) 22:06, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- Speedy Revert to outcome of last discussion Fifteen-inch gauge railway. New title needs to be discussed due to existence of prior RM discussion. -- 65.94.171.126 (talk) 05:04, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Suggest 15-inch gauge railway as a more compact rendering, if we were to choose a different title. -- 65.94.171.126 (talk) 05:04, 18 June 2014 (UTC) (IP sign added later)
- Oppose. The new proposal isn't compliant with WP:UNIT, as it misses a hyphen (in case numbers are fully written out). With the singular form I agree. On Talk:5 ft 3 in gauge railways#Renaming proposal for "Irish" gauge, a cultural / national name not corresponding with the current nomenclature I was given a couple of suggestions for my rename proposal of the Irish gauge article. After my move of this 15-inch article I learnt the title should be singular. New proposal for the name is 15 in gauge railway. The Google search argument mentioned above isn't valid, as "Fifteen inch" and its variants already have a disambiguation page and are indexed by google search.
- Argument for the "15 in" title: Uniformity with articles covering metric track gauges. 900 mm, 750 mm, etc. --Aaron-Tripel (talk) 18:12, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
- Comment I oppose the proposed Fifteen inch gauge railway (hyphen missing). MOS:UNIT says: when used adjective, a full unit name gets a hyphen (not when the symbol is used). But it looks like the nom meant to write Fifteen-inch gauge railway. 21:11, 18 June 2014 User:DePiep (signed late)
- Support reverse to previous Fifteen-inch gauge railway, for now. Could be speedy. Will start a blanket discussion for all these gauge titles - after this one is done. 21:11, 18 June 2014 User:DePiep (signed late)
- Note to the closing admin. I propose this move be reverted with a "Good Faith edit, though not convincing" note (as it is). Any extra conclusive remark by you would lock a future discussion about the whole bunch of similar naming issues (in the rail gauge domain). -DePiep (talk) 20:53, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

Gauge column
editWhat exactly is the purpose of the gauge column in the table? Every entry is identical and indeed could perhaps be guessed at by the article title. Geopersona (talk) 21:10, 10 January 2022 (UTC)
