Contradiction
editEither the song was covered by Jimmy Buffett, or it wasn't. We can't have two statements in this article stating, "Contrary to what many people may believe, this is not a Jimmy Buffett song, nor has he ever covered it on any of his albums," and "Performed by Jimmy Buffett in many live performances, never recorded," under the "Covers" section. -- {| class="wikitable" |- ! header 1 ! header 2 ! header 3 |- | row 1, cell 1 | row 1, cell 2 | row 1, cell 3 |- | row 2, cell 1 | row 2, cell 2 | row 2, cell 3 |} Buffett Cover Songs does not have an instance of Buffett ever playing this live, and most of the mentions on Buffett fan boards I've seen seems to indicate he's never done it live as well. -- --Chuckyg80s 16:47, 14 May 2007 (UTC)
- No citation was included to support "Contrary to what many people may believe" for multiple reasons. One is that this is trivial. Second, it's not supported by the citation that was included. And finally, it uses weasel words: "what many people may believe" is so vague as to be meaningless. Rray (talk) 23:17, 17 June 2008 (UTC)

Misquotes in Escape
editHolmes stated in an interview that none of the quotes attributed to him are real, despite Wikipedia's references to them. Apparently, I can't cite the interview because YT has been "permanently blacklisted"???
To allow better editors than me to at least see the snippet, I have mangled the link (just remove the spaces to see it):

Shrek Reference
editIn Shrek, there's a moment where the talking mirror says "She likes Pina Coladas and likes getting caught in the rain". This sounds like a reference to this song if you ask me. —Preceding unsigned comment added by AlexFili (talk • contribs) 10:31, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

If You Like Piña Coladas
editThe following 3 titles are in this recording:
- "Escape", the original title song before Rupert Holmes change the title song
- "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)"
- "If You Like Piña Coladas"
"Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" was covered by Jimmy Buffett under the name "If You Like Piña Coladas".
The following websites are addressed to the Jimmy Buffett version:
I like the Jimmy Buffett version because his version of the song is similar to the Rupert Holmes version. Currently, MetroLyrics placed the Jimmy Buffett version (as "If You Like Piña Coladas") at #26 on the Top 100 Rock Lyrics list. The #25 position on the list is Manfred Mann's "Blinded by the Light" (a cover version originally recorded by American singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen) and the #27 position is Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger".
Can you created a section titled "Cover version" with a cover by Jimmy Buffett (as "If You Like Piña Coladas")? Thank you. Wisnu Aji (talk) 07:43, 5 December 2015 (UTC)
This was not a #1 song in two decades
edit1979 and 1980 are part of the same decade. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:802:8002:500:59DF:1ACE:D2ED:7242 (talk) 16:01, 18 June 2017 (UTC)
I thoroughly agree
editPure nonsense to suggest a decade ends on an nine not a zero. (count to ten people) - Even the article itself references a cite notes:
- If a decade is measured instead by the traditional definition of a ten-year period starting on 1 January in a year whose last digit is "1" and ending on 31 December in a year whose last digit is "0", then Chubby Checker's "The Twist" is the only pop song to ascend to #1 on the Billboard pop charts in two different decades, once on 19 September 1960 (inside the decade 1 January 1951 - 31 December 1960), and again on 13 January 1962 (inside the decade 1 January 1961 - 31 December 1970).
The text needs to be rewritten to reflect the song's billboard rise, fall and rise again in two adjacent years. Timelord2067 (talk) 05:17, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
