A lot remains to be done
editThis article about one of the leading ornithologists of the century really is a stub. A lot remains to be done. I added the reference "Erwin Stresemann (1975). Ornithology from Aristotle to the Present. Harvard University Press". But he wrote so much more - some of the many examples to be found at Google Scholar:
Aves. E Stresemann - Handbuch der Zoologie, 1934 - de Gruyter
Die Mauser der Vögel. E Stresemann, V Stresemann - 1966 - R. Friedländer
Nazi association
editThe newly added material from Matthew Halley's blog is missing a proper citation to the actual newspaper clipping cited. I tried commenting on Halley's blog but there has been no response forthcoming. I asked a couple of senior European ornithologists about this and they feel that he probably toed the line of the government but that he did not show any anti-Jewish feeling during the period - (note that most copies of his own book were burnt because the publisher was Jewish). There is also no evidence of his having a NSDAP membership and presumably people have looked for it (esp. given that even Konrad Lorenz's membership data has been dug up in recent times).
