"What's My Name" and "Complicated"

@Danionek, thanks for explaining your edit here. I'm trying to help improve this article to featured-list status in the near-future and I was trying to get rid of the dead link for "Complicated". So far, the only iTunes Store link I found for the song was this (which seems to be the version that's part of the album). This version is linked from iTunes's list of Gillies's songs.

Additionally, per WP:DISCOGS, Discogs doesn't seem to be a reliable source, which is why I removed it. Could we replace this with a better source? – Epicgenius (talk) 00:49, 25 November 2024 (UTC)

I just started writing a long message about how painful it will be to get rid of, but suddenly I decided to search in the browser for Spotify Elizabeth Gillies Complicated and this popped up. I think this might help us enough, I don't know why I didn't think of it earlier. LOL XD
By the way, thanks for your message, and cool idea to replace those dead single releases with those links as part of the album, as long as the date is the same. I only noticed it myself about a week ago with L.A. Boyz (from Victorious 3.0: Even More Music from the Hit TV Show), that Apple Music can actually keep the previous date as the song was released earlier, as an album pre-order. In the case of What's My Name and Complicated, it's unfortunately not helpful though, because their single releases were the same day as the album date or later, but I guess this link to Complicated on Spotify should save the day!

@Danionek, thanks for the response. I think the Spotify link would work; I saw that in my searches as well, but wasn't sure whether we could add it to the article. Thanks as well for explaining the reasoning for keeping the original links to What's My Name and Complicated.

I'll also try to figure out which of the other links are dead and fix/archive them. Hopefully we can bring this list to WP:FLC at some point - it's pretty good already, and I appreciate what you've done with the list so far. – Epicgenius (talk) 18:11, 25 November 2024 (UTC)

Well, I think a Spotify link would be better than some completely broken Apple link and Discogs. The Apple link was there before I started editing it myself in 2019 and it hasn't worked since, but I didn't get rid of it because I believed the good faith of the user who added it at the time. Instead, I added a Discogs link, which I know is generally considered unreliable (I don't remember ever adding anything from Discogs to another article), but I wanted to add it as a supporting source. You know, in case any reader wants to double check. That Discogs page seems pretty decent compared to what you can find on that entire website, so I thought it was a good solution at the time, before I came up with the Spotify search (:P)
Overall, it would be nice to improve this article a bit, even to use some secondary sources that would also confirm the notability. Unfortunately, it seems Elizabeth Gillies never achieved much popularity as a singer, just as Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll never achieved enough for any reliable journalists to write about how a new song was released on iTunes every week, but I'll try to look into that too!

@Danionek, thanks for the explanation. I didn't know why the Discogs link was there, but it makes sense now.

Regarding the lack of reliable sources, I noticed that too. It does seem like Elizabeth Gillies's music career has been mostly overlooked by reliable sources, but if this recent People article is any indication, she should be releasing plenty of new music in the next few years. @Epicgenius: Since we've mentioned Spotify, what do you think about replacing every (dead) iTunes/Apple Music link with a Spotify one? iTunes/Apple Music removes some releases entirely, like these single ones, and Spotify seems to just hide them from the artist homepage, but they apparently remain inside the app somehow, so one can at least search for them in a web browser.
